A pair of little-known Eastern European checkers (shot in the Orenburg region):
Melitaea roberti is a twin species of M. trivia, but it is smaller, without yellowness from the underparts of the western cr., and flies earlier. In the south-east of Europe (Lower Volga region, Orenburg region), it is represented by the subspecies M. r. uvarovi.
Melitaea punica-a double species of M. phoebe, but again smaller than it and flies earlier... In the south-east of Europe (Pridnestrovie, Lower Volga region, Orenburg region) it is represented by the subspecies M. p. ornata.

to Valery A.:
Everything looks unnatural in your photo... I guess it's a montage? It just feels like the boloria image is superimposed on the background image. Or a butterfly (dry) is superimposed on the background photo. This is also supported by the fact that against this background (as if in the air, which cannot be according to the laws of physics), there is a shadow from a butterfly. And the butterfly itself seems to be hanging in the air, and not sitting on a flower.

No, not editing. I took photos with a flash, which is why it's so unnatural.
In general, these bolorias are interesting to watch in the evening: the altitude is about 2600, it is quite cold, and when the sun begins to hide, the bolorias stop flying, sit on the highest flowers and open their wings to the last rays. Since there are so many of them, it will look like a meadow blooming with orange flowers...

This isn't a checkers game.

23.10.2007 20:11, Grigory Grigoryev

So it's time to switch to mother-of-pearl.
And the photo turned out to be interesting.
Thank You

There is little information about it, and I didn't find any photos on the Internet at all. The specimen was identified from the Chinese atlas of local entomofauna.

Did you lick your lips?" tongue.gif
This is an aberration of didyma, which I caught in the Northern Altai (VII. 2007). There was a dilemma: to photograph in nature or to catch... well, you know, you could have screwed up... Although how great it would be...

24.03.2008 12:37, Timandr

P.S. Yes, do not use it commercially (illustrations, etc.) without your knowledge.

Two new checkers from Mongolia.
The first one should be given a specific status, in my opinion Kirill was a little overly cautious.
