What a great theme! Kukuli is a cult band!

Cucullia balsamitae (Boisduval, 1840), Hungary, Southeast, sand dunes

It is generally assumed that balsamitae in Hungary have one generation per year, from May to mid-July, and then only individual individuals are found until about mid-August. This year, I caught 27 copies on August 3, 16 copies on August 7, and 4 copies on August 12. We all agreed that this is a full-fledged second generation. Hurray!

Cucullia dracunculi (Hubner, 1813) Hungary

It lives on dry, warm slopes of the southern exposure.
The butterfly flies in July, the caterpillar in September on Aster linosyris.
The caterpillars are collected after dark.
It is listed in the Hungarian Red Data Book. The fine for one caught specimen is ~40 euros.
Unfortunately, I lost my photos of butterflies in nature.

Thanks for the photo!
How often do you come across Cucullia santonici? How many pieces arrive in one night? What time does the year start and end? What time of year do they fly in your region?

Odontelia fissilis (Christoph, 1884) was indicated for the Caspian region. Not her? Yu. L. Shchetkin probably described it from Tajikistan?..

No problems. smile.gif But how else? wink.gif After all, I live in Hungary, and here the Kukuli category is "must". If I don't know something yet, it's easy to find out from friends.

boryphora I know, it is in the 6th volume of NE.
Odontelia arenicola was identified by a friend of mine (a museum employee and owner of one of the largest collections of cucullias)

The topic is very interesting. More photos!

I have two guys and three girls of this type. I can share, especially girlssmile.gif, But better, later. Next spring, I'll start fishing purposefully.
But I would like a link to the original description of Yuri Leonidovich. I didn't find anything on this topic on the web. And I want to go deeper. Where is arinicola still described from? And the genitals in the original description are drawn, I hope...

I'll find some literature for you in time. Now there are a lot of things to do, I don't want to be sprayed.
Thank you for agreeing to share the butterflies. The view is good. Catch more next season. If you don't mind, let's discuss these issues via PM.

I just read your message carefully.
No, it's not Odontelia fissilis. Odontelia fissilis - noticeably smaller in size and clearly distinguishable from the pattern.
Very cool band. I'll try to find some literature. I was wondering myself smile.gif

Damn, there is a need to discover two new themes Xyleninae and Hadeninae! Open it? wink.gif

Beautiful butterfly, good photo, but no relation to the subfamily Cucullinae. Even remotely.
Baorisa hieroglyphica belongs to the subfamily Pantheinae.

It is difficult to answer, for the first time caught 08.08.03 ekz wingspan is still half a centimeter less, and two 30.07.05, it's all in one place in M. Dmitrovichi Obukhov district on a 30-watt UVL( bacterocidal). I didn't catch any more fish there at that time, and I didn't come across it anywhere else.

Quite a satisfactory answer. Two copies per night and so on twice with an interval of two years. This means that they are there and there are many of them. The fact is that catching the Cucullia scopariae imago in Hungary is very rare. They don't come to light. In the collections there are mainly brood tracks.
