Soon I will find time to describe here my impressions of my trip to Tanzania and Kenya, with photos and modest observations of insects. Now I want to learn more about this bug from Tanzania, Hedaru, South Pare Mount. Found walking on the ground during the day.

The trip report was sent to http://www.bpclub.ru/index.php?showtopic=25583 I will try to open up the near-secomic aspects here. Fishing was not the purpose
of the trip.I photographed insects whenever I could.
So, Kenya.I stayed there for 3 days, mostly on the road.I had never been in these latitudes before, and I expected surprises. But the insects didn't give themselves away.Even the flies didn't think to crash into the windshield of the car.
On the second day of my stay, I went away from the capital. After waving more than 300 km, I noticed three times large sailboats. In a Sikh temple, Makindu photographed a large bee, which was then
constantly encountered in Tanzania. The light of the night lantern in the temple was not affected by anything.Only the smallest ants and mosquitoes were found in the room.
On my return to Nairobi, I caught an ant lion.
At this stage, there were more animals than insects.

So it's more like our Far Eastern Phellopsis amurensis (Zopheridae).

Darkling of the genus Akis, perhaps.

The beetle was interested in detail, since I brought it alive and settled it in my house) but he didn't take root-I didn't see that he ate.Interesting beetle.

Already on the Tanzanian side, locusts began to meet, jumping in the grass of the roadsides. I came across a beautiful, blue, soft-bodied beetle.

Photo-landscape in the vicinity of Arusha.Insects in the same place.

I made my first stop for a few days in the village of Khedaru, on the road to the village of es Salaam. The village is located on the South Pare Mtns ridge. The terrain
was impressive.Walking in the surrounding area and in the mountains gave a lot of impressions.Something black was flying over Glova with a hum, distracting her from the heat.At first I thought it was some kind of barbel, but it turned out to be a hefty wasp, about the size of a child's palm.A poet's dream! There were nondescript beetles on the stems, and I remember a dead weevil that charmed me with its unearthly
appearance.Darklings were running around,I scared off a moth of the night several times. The first large beetle was a dung beetle that unfortunately flew by me.It was very tempting, and I didn't miss it.I had to remember more than once in the future and a fan of kiwsyaks from this forum. There are a lot of kiwis in Tanzania. Actually,
as they say, see Fig.) It is necessary, however, to say that I probably sin by posting here not only insects.

"An error occurred while working with the database." Indeed, I won't get there for 2 days myself.

Big-eyed owl butterfly Cyligramma latona (Cramer, 1775)

16.02.2010 20:57, Николаевич

Thank you all for identifying insects !

As for the dung beetle - as I wrote above, it was very tempting, I did not take pictures of it, but focused only on catching it, knocking it down on the fly.

On the mountainside, higher up, I remembered the flight of a butterfly that hovered near the bushes like a bird, catching the air currents from the slope with its wings.Very nice flight. In the area of the forest, a small bright cicada was caught, immediately slipping out of his hands.I spent the night in the mountains and in the morning ,fortunately, I came across another one.The top of the mountain was still covered with forest, but I don't know how many years are left before it completely disappears. Evening
walks with a flashlight on the plain and dry ravines pleased with the mass of ground beetles.Dung workers worked with manure. In the yard ,
big-eyed butterflies flew to the dripping tap,a huge cricket came, and ground beetles in the assortment. I took shelter in a community of Christians,
I don't know how they would react to the fact that I massively "exterminate"creepers, but they didn't know about it, which was expensive for catching and drying.Despite this, it was nice in the village of Hedaru! Below is everything that I photographed in this village,I went there 2 times in March and April. Picture 333 shows a mink with traces of someone's vital activity.

DSC02515.jpg and DSC02522.jpg -Scarabaeus sp., type number one.
DSC02525.jpg -probably also Scarabaeus sp., species number two (although it is suspected that this is from a different genus).
DSC02529.jpg -Anthia (Chilanthia) cavernosa, if relatively large (30-40 mm)
DSC02559.jpg -Anthia (Termophilum) hexasticta

DSC02511.jpg -it looks like a red-bodied tick (Trombiculidae). Didn't try to attack?

an amazing tick.the length, from memory, was about 8mm.Crawled after the rain quite peacefully.(could have attacked?)
Dmitrich-There are not only photos of mattresses, but also the mattresses themselves. Everything collected was placed in different boxes (from photographic film, for example).I remember this moment with regret.
Leftover photos of insects in the area. Among them, the ground beetle is perhaps the most elegant and beautifully varnished of the met. Oh, it was a night, I long for those times.

"ground beetle-perhaps the most elegant and beautifully varnished of the met" - horse from Megacephalini

The steed is something like Megacephala regalis. Subspecies is difficult to say - there are many of them. But the beetle is very good. You're in luck.

I wish I had a better photo. Och is similar to the named one.

Bad Den-tickets (Nairobi) $ 700+ everything else about 500.
Based on the fact that I did not catch(did not use traps and other tools), but rather collected what came along along the way-of course, no questions arose.I think that if you do this( for example, night fishing) then you can, although caution does not hurt.White and without a net there causes increased interest.Export-no one watched anything at my place. It was within 100 notches.

18.02.2010 21:29, Николаевич

The next week I spent a day in Dar es Salaam and a trip to Zanzibar.I don't remember what I caught on the island... I remember
that I sacrificed a hardy shark from the collection to the geckos hunting in the corridor(without ever catching the same one again).
In fact, thanks to the geckos, I didn't get anything at my home in the evening - these companions are too agile. On the island, the
termite flight began.I took a few for myself, to the surprise of the employee of the diner where I had dinner. On the coast of the mainland there were quite a lot of different butterflies. It is quite possible to collect an interesting collection. In the suburbs of Dara, where I stayed for the night, I encountered perhaps the most picturesque insect. On a purple leaf, a bright praying mantis with contrasting eyes on the elytra caught the eye, standing in a traditional pose.It seemed like a production. Something more pompous nobody has ever seen the lens of my camera. Not far away,in the bosom of a leaf,a green frog hid, as if in a sleeping bag.It is a pity that these images are irretrievably lost.
Then there was a non-stop road to the border of Zambia, I must say that the slopes around
looked greener here, but unfortunately I passed them. They didn't give me a visa,so I had to turn around.Dar es Salaam was marked by the capture of a barbel with a shaggy mustache. On the beach, I caught a bug with an evil expression on its face.I took it carefully, fearing a bite and sudden death.I remember a large, yellow-tailed spider that had made a net in the crown of a tree. You don't need a macro mode for such instances.
