I decided to create a theme for rhinoceros beetles. If you have something on this topic-give it your all! I start with a photo of the Japanese dup Allomyrina dichotoma Linnaeus, 1771 = Trypoxylus dichotomus Linnaeus, 1771 (male).

P.S. From me here will be more: our Oryctes nasicornis and some Pentodon from Egypt (I will determine and lay out).

Here are the promised 2 hollows:
1 and 2) Oryctes nasicornis Linnaeus, 1758 (male and female).-M. O. Balashikha district, Zheleznodorozhny town (we used to have one known population in piles of rotted flax seed-now it is destroyed).
3) Pentodon algerinus (Fuessly, 1778)."Egypt, the Nile Delta.
Many thanks to scar for correcting the definition.

Thank you for that: finally cleared up (I probably have a dozen of these, Egyptian are). I'll fix the post now.

I want to introduce here another small and interesting rhinoceros.
The view unfortunately remained a mystery to me confused.gif. Therefore, I will be happy to correct the post if possible. smile.gif
Temnorhynchus sp.
Or maybe T emnorhynchus baal Reiche, 1856 after all???
Egypt, Alexandria. October 2011.

You can try writing Yannig PONCHEL dynastids@yahoo.fr, site manager The Dynastidae of the World. He somehow helped me identify Temnorhynchus from the photo (appearance and genitals).

1. I shot a collection of exotic beetles (most of them without labels).
There are more than a dozen hollows (as far as I was able to navigate)

Does it make sense to post here for the definition?

Why not? Maybe they will be determined smile.gif

No. 1 "Asian" Xylotrupes sp.??

And not the Asian Oryctes rhinoceros in f. 3 ? A geographical label would have made that clear right away.

Maybe so. It's difficult without a label: our rhinoceros has many forms. It's hard to guess.

Maybe....
Only Xylotrupes gideon (Linnaeus, 1767) he, not Dynastes. The view has a bunch of subspecies (you need a label). Yes, and not just one species in the genus (there are close ones). Based on this, I did not dare to bring it to the view.

yes.gif Apparently a male African bronzer Megalorrhina harrisi peregrina Kolbe, 1895
I'll ask Vitaly to move the photo to bronzes, and remove it from here.
P.S. At the moment, you can also move there and this with the definition of Mecynorrhina oberthuri decorata (Fairmaire, 1903)

Transcaucasian rhinoceros (Oryctes nasicornis latipennis) Distribution — Ciscaucasia, Caucasus, North-Eastern Turkey, North-Eastern Iran. In Dagestan, in low-lying and foothill inner-mountain areas. Body length up to 39 mm. It differs from the nominative subspecies in a few ways. The head of the female is more vertical in front, the horn on the male's head on the anterior surface in the middle with a furrow, the lateral tubercles of the posterior elevation of the pronotum are wider, the middle tubercle slightly protrudes forward. The lateral fossa of the male pronotum is well delineated, covered with thicker and somewhat less coarse wrinkles. Other features and coloration are similar to those of a typical subspecies.
