What part of Mongolia is it? There is no time to search Google.
And then at one time the great figure Obydov described with C-Mongolia: Arkhangay aimak:Khangay Mt.R.:Tamir River valley, 47:13N/101:02E; 1f подвид mongoliensis Obydov, 2003

The subspecies is described from one female. Hubsugul Lake is very close to the East.Sayan. And Hangai is the western and central parts of Mongolia. The question is, how isolated is the population of C. massagetus there to be considered a subspecies?..

Well, yes, after all, only the great ones can describe something one copy at a time. rolleyes.gif

Yes, it is indeed the Eastern Sayan, only 50 km from Monde. As far as I understand, there is certainly a nominative subspecies of massagetus.

15.12.2012 19:21, scarit

That's where the nominative lives. But if mongoliensis is indeed a subspecies living on Khangai , why is it described only from one specimen? The species is not uncommon. And since carabus are generally characterized by variability of morphological characteristics, especially for those living in the highlands, it is most likely that there was a specimen that was somewhat different from the rest of the individuals (if , of course, more than one beetle was collected).

And I mean the same thing, to describe one copy at a time is complete stupidity. After all, sometimes such freaks fall out of the general framework that you can not immediately understand which subgenus, let alone the species.

Well, why? The same Obydov described a new subspecies (and species) in two copies smile.gif

16.12.2012 7:43, guest: kenar

Well, not just Obydov-check out Berlov's Pterostichus (which also distributes its descriptions in the Scans of books with entomological topics subforum). Although, it would seem, here is the same Mayr in the network hanging...

The subspecies may be defined as follows: A subspecies is an aggregate of phenotypically similar populations of a species inhabiting a geographic subdivision of the range of that species and differing taxonomically from other populations of that species.
p.43, Chapter 3. The Species Taxon. In: Ernst Mayr, Peter D. Ashlock. Principles of Systematic Zoology. Second Edition. 1991. McGraw-Hill, Inc.

In Russia, its own way in the taxonomy ))) .

Berlov is, of course, the same thing... There on the conveyor delivered. And the names of taxa, such as ibusketi and eberlovi... On this occasion Shilenkov expressed

There on the conveyor delivered. And the names of taxa, such as ibusketi and eberlovi... On this occasion, Shilenkov spoke out

Have you read the "preliminary descriptions" of new Cryobius species by VShilenkov (2000)?
That's where Vshidevra is!
There aren't even any drawings of genitals.
Although Cryobius perfectly "work" bloated endophallus.

And about names like "ibusketi" it is quite unambiguously written in the Code of Animal Nomenclature.
Before making global conclusions, you should read it... umnik.gif

Lafa:

All the names of the taxa described by you are valid, I think no one will argue.

but!

That Shilenkov when describing Cryobius, that you when describing your Pterostichus are unreasonably original. The description of a taxon is a standard procedure, and everything from the name to the last dot and from the first to the last term should correspond to established traditions. Shilenkov omitted the drawings in the description, you-decided to call the view eberlovi... - there is a lack of a sense of proportion in the description (i.e. bad taste))). IMHO.

(For my taste - reference descriptions of buzzers-Ball'a, which describes them for the last 50 years approximately according to the same scheme).

18.12.2012 10:10, slizerin

The Berlovs have brief succinct descriptions and bags of penis chotko drawn, and what to call a new type is a personal matter of the author. I think my son named Eberlovi after his father. Shilenkov named nebria in honor of Arina's daughter, what does a sense of proportion have to do with it?

I apologize for intruding. I have already posted these beetles in the topic "Definition of ground beetles of the genus Carabus", but alas weep.gif.
I think it's C. (Diocarabus) fraterculus.
Maybe here someone will confirm or deny my assumption mol.gif.
