It is an endemic subgenus from the Tien Shan. 17 species in Brzezina. All species are found in the middle mountain and high-mountain zones, always above 1500 m, in mountain forests, meadows and syrts (Kryzhanovsky). Beetles are small in size (13-24 mm). By morphology and distribution of subgen. Ophiocarabus is close to another endemic subgenus from the Tien Shan, Cryptocarabus.

Kyrgyzstan, St. Tien-Shan, V. Terskey Ala-Tau, Kok-kiya River, h=2800 m

Body length is 15-18 mm.
