Yes, and Europeans have annoying mistakes. And how did these funny little animals get, judging by the title of the book, to insects (there was also a spider, Argiopa, but the photo did not come out)?

if you look closely, then under the signature dog tick - not a dog tick at all, there are not enough legs and the body shape is different. This is a bloodsucker, referring respectively to insects, and not arachnids. Especially cynically flaunts the text under the photo about the number of legs in insects and spiders )))

in the photo, not our carpenter bee purple, and its relative from Southeast Asia, named Xylocopa latipes for the characteristic extensions on the front legs, which are absent in our Xylocopa violacea.

Video shooting of a certain collection that was shown in the Old Castle in Grodno in 2011.
It is difficult to call it a collection in its design, but the signs with the names of beetles were clearly glued from the fool, every second, or even in a row, with the wrong type plate.

well, here in the photo the weevil is NOT from the genus stated in the text, but apparently from the species-Gymnopholus weiskei. Weevils of the genus Eupholus do not have spiny outgrowths on the elytra, their color varies from bright blue and different shades of blue to greenish. Some species have transverse or longitudinal black or white stripes.

there were few factual errors from the original authors in the book, but translators with Russian names tried their best - half of them were clearly invented, because many species from the book have no established Russian names, and some of them are tracing paper from English names.

AUTHORS ' MISTAKES

Podalirii does not look like himself, not only did they draw a mottled yellow-white color instead of a plain one, but they also drew absurdly long tails on the hind wings. because of this, it became more like relatives from the tropical genus Eurytides and hedgehogs with it.

user posted image

the photo shows a completely different type of peacock eyes, the name of which still needs clarification. Antherea polyphemus looks different

on the page spread preceding the section about insects of the Americas, there was a photo of the European deer beetle on oak leaves, and not its North American relatives in the genus Lucanus.

and here, too, in the description of the American deer beetle Lucanus elaphus, a photo of the European Lucanus cervus was inserted

Did you think that the days of obscurantism went away with the Middle Ages? But no!

Meet the fantastic article in its absurdity

N. A. Akimova, E. D. Fomicheva.
Ecology and morphological features of black (shagreen) ground beetles (CARABUS CORIACEUS L.) in the Volgograd region.
link - http://www.zin.ru/ANIMALIA/COLEOPTERA/RUS/allpdf42.htm

Can you smell it? a ground beetle with 4 segmented legs...
that is, these ladies caught fifty black heifers and created a sort of fantastic work, and even reproached Kryzhanovsky and Plavilshchikov for an insufficiently detailed description of the morphology of corabus coriaceus....

Thanks to K. V. Makarov, who was the first to pay attention to this article, and to A. L. Lobanov for scanning it and putting it on public display)))

Voronezh became famous mad.gif
