Termites are quite small insects (meaning workers), and purely nocturnal "animals". The nest can be in some object or device that "drags" the Microphone from apartment to apartment. I have, for example, red cockroaches "went" in the radio.

24.06.2006 13:43, Bad Den

I am also inclined to believe that these are termites.
True, as it turned out, "they" also devoured the dermatin sneakers of a Chinese(!) smile.gifstuffed hare - even the most advanced termites are incapable of this, it seems to me...

Yes, actually, in any way-keep the toilet/bathroom clean and dry, they will disappear themselves.

24.06.2006 16:45, Dmitry Vlasov

Termites eat "everything that is not nailed down...", for many years there was a laboratory at Moscow State University that studied the termite resistance of materials. After all, the USSR drove all sorts of equipment to our tropical friends, etc. So the staff told me that termites eat EVERYTHING except glass and metal. It can be non-food damage. Imagine what an advanced nest of a gnawed Chinese hare!!! And the dermantine "slippers" went to the waterproof roof!
Helene, ow! What do you hear about "enemies?

24.06.2006 18:01, sealor

Oh, come on, termites. This is certainly good, but where is the termite garden with hundreds of termites, then I heard that in the same MSU they did not breed, and here such a scale. And the fact that "nibbles appear right in front of our eyes" does not fit with termites. They are small but how much? Well, not smaller than 3 mm, if you really take the smallest species, and these are already noticeable individuals. It is necessary to go to the apartment itself and see, it feels like everyone is afraid to take "nibblers" with them and do not go smile.gif

Oh, my God!! What kind is it?

24.06.2006 19:30, Tigran Oganesov

I don't remember exactly, like Reticulitermes lucifugus. In my opinion, even from your region. I might be wrong, though.

24.06.2006 21:49, sealor

Yes, we have one. I was told that twice they found nests under the boards, I even know a place where you can look, you need to go there and see.

25.06.2006 13:31, Ольон

What a creepy picture! And IT can live in my house? I'm terrified... But the adults, if I do have termites, should show up? I've never seen anything like it...

25.06.2006 15:26, Bad Den

Termites are nocturnal animals, as mentioned above. Therefore, try to conduct an inspection in the middle of the night, suddenly turn on the light and carefully inspect everything.

25.06.2006 17:01, Ольон

It's crazy.... I'll never get them out frown.gif(((((

It is good to speak from the glorious city of Nikolaev... umnik.gif
In fact, it turned out that they are still categorically not shown during the day... And most importantly-if such an aggressive and clearly "non-native" pest, then there is still such a thing as quarantine safety... If there is at least a theoretical possibility of making three out of two foci, then it is better not to risk it in vain. Well, a personal question, of course: I have a scientific collection of butterflies in my house...
In general, I'm going to contact the quarantine service-let them sort it out, termites or what.

26.06.2006 13:54, Helene

I just got through to the quarantine staff, and they promised to help.
It turned out an optimistic detail about termites: although this species does not have a classic termite house, and they are similar in lifestyle to Pharaoh ants, it is not so easy to carry them out of the hearth (you need to drag the female). Although we don't know if they're termites yet...
In general, we will understand further...

26.06.2006 14:54, vilgeforce

By the way, try something else: stick it somewhere where these creatures are still gnawing on the tape, but with the adhesive side up and so that there is no gap between the surface and the non-sticky layer of tape. Maybe someone will stick...

26.06.2006 15:18, Ольон

Thanks, that's an idea... After all, somehow they move, so they can stick.

Right now I have a man sitting next to me who also knows something about termites. We reread the entire topic with him and this is the conclusion we made.
Do you know where the termite patch is most likely?
IN THE CHAIR! umnik.gif
I mean, inside, in the stuffing material.

Here!
They just gave me a little book by D. P. Zhuzhikov (the chief specialist on termites at Moscow State University, who was recommended by quarantine specialists), it says something about the very termite R. lucifugus:

27.06.2006 18:40, sealor

Helene, and you still think smile.gifYes, I would go after this, no, I would run there and collect all the termites to one!!! This is such an interesting animal!!

27.06.2006 20:53, andr_mih

Don't worry, you don't have any leatherworms, cats, termites, or cheburashkas. This is the chemical destruction of the upholstery and lining material. Perhaps it was once initiated by some gnawers. Foam rubber, for example, after many years of service suddenly begins to collapse on its own, while releasing almost dioxins (I don't remember exactly). Don't worry and don't go to psychologists. But throw the chair in the trash, zdorovishko something it is more expensive. It is better to find something from non-soft furniture, in the same trash, for example.

Causing a chain reaction in other things? wink.gif

The chair is an innocent victim. Like the huge bag of stuffed animals I'd thrown in the trash from my last apartment. I then forced the owners to throw out all the furniture, assuming that the source is there, however... The animals moved safely with or on me. I suspect that they also walk freely around me, just to see them because of the size is unrealistic....

28.06.2006 11:20, Helene

No, they are not microscopic (about 3 mm). Just nocturnal, secretive. By the way, lucifugus is translated as photophobia smile.gif
After I found out that they were not so highly contagious, I would have been happy to be present at the eviscerationsmile.gif, But here's the deal: 8.07. I'm leaving for Makhachkala, and I still have a lot of things to do... frown.gif
And from the Department of Entomology we have Bolivar. I advise you to contact him-maybe he will help you collect them, and consult Zhuzhikov about getting rid of your enemies. Or maybe you'll decide to disembowel and muse the termites yourself? I gave you some alcohol... smile.gif

28.06.2006 11:32, Ольон

I had a premonition and picked up a little. Under the upholstery - cardboard. Under the cardboard - boards.... The foam inside the chair is clean, at least externally... Does the tree look like it should somehow differ from a normal, non-gnawed one?

As for the tree , I don't know, in principle, they can also make moves inside a piece of wood...
And if the chair was picked "slightly" - so maybe not in the place where the nest is.
The idea that the nest is in the chair was suggested by the fact that the chair is most damaged. So maybe the point is that the" building material " from it is closest to carry? smile.gif

That's for everyone. happened. look at the leatherworms and their larvae:

Well, yes, a nuclear chain reaction that begins when the number of teddy bears per square meter of living space is exceeded. What surprises you so much? We should burn everything, I agree with you.

Unfortunately, termites do not survive in such conditions. Give them humidity, relative peace, and they gnaw more and more on the inside. Kozheedy, ognevki-yes, but here they seem to be long gone.

30.06.2006 10:37, Ольон

Experience in throwing out, burning and relocating I have be healthy what! Therefore, I will not repeat it, because it did not lead to anything.

02.07.2006 15:24, andr_mih

Try another experiment: swap things with friends and acquaintances. Report the results later. It seems to me that these injuries are of a non-biological nature. Do you work with acids and alkalis in your home?

Since constructive suggestions on the topic from forum participants have already dried up, I suggest moving it to the topic "Unknown".
Yes, one more request: change this stupid name "Friday the 13th" to at least the old one. Because with his appearance, the topic immediately stalled.

02.07.2006 15:50, Ольон

It was called "Help identify the enemy", and so it is called. There is no Friday ever.

Acids and alkalis are not found in the house. I'm not a chemist, I'm not a biologist, I'm a journalist. therefore, there is not a single bottle.

02.07.2006 19:02, andr_mih

Well, if you are a journalist, then you probably have detractors. For example, witches and wizards who cause damage to things smile.gif

Yes, there is such an opinion.

I don't see much point. The topic is quite self-sufficient.

03.07.2006 12:42, Ольон

What other non-biological damages are there, excluding alkalis, acids, and other chemicals?

03.07.2006 14:00, tess

Please help me with my problem - there are insects at home. A year ago, we bought an apartment in a new building-a monolithic brick house. Made repairs: walls-wallpaper (paper and vinyl), floor-concrete screed, substrate-parkolag (cardboard with a layer of bitumen+cork chips), and laminate (made in Belgium), oak plinth (stain+varnish). We live for 3 months. I began to notice insects unknown to me, the further I went, the more. They crawl on walls (not very high), floors, and baseboards mostly in rooms. They crawl out as soon as it gets dark. During the day, you can only find it in a dark place (at the table). Size - from 0 to 1.5 mm. The color is light beige, almost transparent. The head is small, the torso is pear-shaped, the legs seem to be 6. They choke easily. An adult crawls quickly, and if you hit it nearby, it jumps low-jumps to the next place. Whether they bite or not, I don't know. They like to sit in the bathroom between tiles on grout, and on wooden skirting boards. In rooms with paper wallpaper, the walls are crawling higher and there are more of them. Tell me what they are, how dangerous they are, and how to deal with them. Thank you for your help.

Hm... can you take a picture??

and it's not a small ant or a silver-colored insect?
