OK:
take such a caterpillar, a couple of leaves, throw it in a jar with a small amount of earth and bring out a beautiful butterfly (for fun smile.gif)

In the picture, the caterpillar looks like a Death's Head hawk moth.. the vineyard is unlikely to have the same appearance..

Photo number one - Hawk moth wine medium, grape things devour, rather he?
On the second - Hippotion celerio I don't remember the Russian name, like big wine, maybe also devours grapes.
Other hawk moth caterpillars do not fit the description..

Where there is a horn, there is a back part, where there is a spot, there is a front.

" bring out a beautiful butterfly (for fun)"

Not everyone brings out a butterfly to pin it in a box, you can admire and let smile.gifgo

Since the topic was about hawk moth caterpillars, I have long wanted to ask specialists in lepidopterology whether their spike on the pygidia, which, as far as I know, is a characteristic feature of the entire family, has any functional significance.
It seems that in case of danger, at least some hawk moth caterpillars can raise their front part of the body and "stick out" (defensive posture), but I have never seen or heard them start waving their ass with a spike, as for example, sawfly false caterpillars do on a leaf, only they do not have spikes.

I don't know the answer, but I saw myself when I took their caterpillars in my hands that they began to twitch, curling up in a ball first on one side, then on the other very sharply.. maybe they can do something with their spike.
