We, in the Volgograd region, have just enough of them this year... Even in cities, thistles are constantly in plain sight.

10.06.2009 21:52, Fornax13

We also have an invasion in the city this year...

On May 3-4, I observed the mass migration of vanessa cardui .Thousands of butterflies flew strictly in one direction (north) at an altitude of no more than 2 meters. The roads and roadsides were littered with corpses and injured butterflies. This mass migration was observed for the first time

Apparently, they just flew to ussmile.gif: a large number of super-fast, obviously not local burdocks appeared.

In 08, in Moscow and the Moscow Region, I did not see one at all, but this year like dirt,,

23.06.2009 19:11, Трофим

This year, too, I saw such a massive explosion for the first time at the end of May. They are usually isolated in our country at the beginning of June, or rather before that, I did not observe them at all in late May or early June.
And this year they are going for a hike in 2008 coming off.

07.07.2009 22:49, t00m

and we have them opoy eat)

09.07.2009 19:47, алекс 2611

Yeah. And we have an unusual number of them

24.07.2009 22:08, annett

We have more cardui in the Moscow Region this year than ever before. I'm surprised myself! A huge amount!

25.07.2009 8:52, BUTTERFLY

In the Belgorod region this year it occurs en masse.

13.10.2009 17:35, Победитель тараканов

Repeatedly in the first half of summer. Both in the Moscow and Ryazan regions. Yes, to hell with it with burdock, here the mourning woman becomes extremely rare...

And by the way, I know a place where they are at least not so rare.In the Riga direction directly at the railway station tongue.gif

In the Balashikha district, it was full (as well as the admiral). Migrants!!!

13.10.2009 19:01, TEMPUS

In the Ivanovo region this year, there were quite a lot of thistles and admirals.Last year there were a huge number of admirals, but for some reason there were very few thistles, almost none.

13.10.2009 19:53, gumenuk

In early June, it was seen in large numbers in the fields of the Krasnodar Territory, in July-the Moscow region, Ramenskiy district, Khripan (moderately)

13.10.2009 22:20, mikee

Who are the migrants? The mourner and the Admiral? And when was the last time the Balashikha district of the Moscow Region was full of mourning women?
PS. I remember when, but it was many years ago smile.gif

Yes, no, I had a burdock and an admiral in mind-they are migrants, but I don't see a mourner myself for a long time. smile.gifP.S. By the way, we have a mourner (wintered) in the spring to find it on birch sap or on a flowering willow in the area of the Quarry pond in the forest opposite the depot (I used to catch it there all the time).

30.10.2009 16:04,

Has anyone met vanessa cardui this year in Moscow or the surrounding regions?

This year it is full in the Ryazan, Nizhny Novgorod regions and Mordovia. And, most likely, the second generation was also.

I don't know where D. A. Kovalenko will conduct the reintroduction, but there are definitely such reserves. yes.gif

04.11.2009 19:53,

Yes, my friends told me that in Russia there are a lot of mourning and hives-that's why everyone gets cheaper. We have in the museum the last urticaria registered in 1987, caught by students. Regarding the mourning box, it was found in 1973 and in 2002 in the north of 1 copy. And judging by the individual finds is ............

For the Moscow region: Urticaria is so common (from the first warm spring days to autumn) that I stopped paying attention to it. But with Mourning in recent times it has become difficult (the last time in 2000 caught).

05.11.2009 15:41, Victor Gazanchidis

In the last 3-4 years, I have not seen any mourning women in the Moscow and Ryazan regions either. But in the Altai caught more than once-there it is often found.

05.11.2009 15:43, Victor Titov

Here many forumchane from neighboring areas (not only Moscow) complain that mourning has become rare. And in the Yaroslavl region, although there are fluctuations in the number over the years,it is impossible to attribute it to rarities. It occurs consistently and regularly. At the same time, it is worth considering that I don't pay much attention to butterflies, more and more to beetles. Another question is that in the late 60s and early 70s, it was constantly visible even in populated areas, and now I find it more often in the woods. But in numbers certainly not less than the swallowtail, for example. And about its ordinariness on the forum already so many copies are broken, including when discussing Red Books.

I don't know about polyxena, but with other species - in my opinion, a hopeless occupation. Imagos fly well and are present in neighboring regions. If the conditions were right, they would have bred themselves long ago. In the 80s, urticaria on the mainland of Ukraine was a mass species, and now it is very rare.
In Crimea, urticaria occurs exclusively along the main ridge of the Crimean Mountains. Although there are enough nettles in other places, including in the adjacent territory, where there is even more of it (nettles). But she (urticaria) does not want to "introduce" there - and that's it! smile.gif

In July, there was a lot in the Voskresensk district (MO), I have repeatedly observed in the Vladimir region. But the mourner could not be seen, and the swallowtail only met 3 times...

Urticaria has become a rarity in Kharkiv.
When I was 15 years old, I observed peacock's eye and hives in my dacha, dozens of butterflies flew over the flowering nettles.I remember it was like this, then in 1997 I found one wintering in gorazh and in 2007 I saw one and caught it... And the peacock's eye is still there

I can add that until 2003, mourning grounds were full on the outskirts of Moscow, especially in the early spring. In the same year, I saw a total of four times in the Ministry of Defense, in the Sergiev-Pasadsky, Orekhovo-Zuevsky and Lukhovitsky districts. But in mid-August, in the Tver region, near the border with Vologda, they flew in droves. But polychrome last 6 years have not seen in the MO at all...

I am not a "butterfly man", so I would like to clarify: what kind of polychrome are we talking about-Nymphalis xanthomelas or N. polychloros? According to my observations, polychrome simply lead a more secretive lifestyle compared to mourning, for example. In the early spring, after wintering, they laid eggs and went to another world, and the second generation has a very short period of active summer before hiding "in the cracks" for wintering. So they don't come across very often. And for an inexperienced observer, they are generally not very catchy and recognizable.
