Phyllanthus digs a hole. The size is about 2 cm. Their whole settlement: on 1 sq. m - dozens of minks. It's hard to think where the nearest honeybee hives might be, but there is a colony of long-whiskered bees just a few meters away. July 10, east of the Vologda region. Is it really possible to clarify the definition?

A very interesting Pelopean, the stalk of the abdomen is curved (as in S. curvatum, S. deforme), and the nest is like in species where the stalk of the abdomen is straight; it does not look like anything in color (except, with a stretch, it is close to S. deforme, but again the nest is not like that). Perhaps something new from the drift species. Hopefully AVA will show up and determine...

What's bothering you? We have plenty of them, and they should also be available in the north, just less often.

Dear colleagues,

Excuse me for being able to write only in English. I am the member of the forum from Serbia, and I have already used several of highly interesting data posted here earlier, on introduced Sceliphron. For all interested, you may download our paper:
http://www.eds.org.rs/AES/Vol16/08%20AES%2...c%20et%20al.pdf
where we credited several members of the forum.

The photos posted by John-ST are certainly very interesting and unusual, as noted yesterday by Karharot. The wasps are almost certainly S. deforme, but the type of the nest does not match. The locality/area (Рязанская область) corresponds well in latitude with the most recent available records in neighbouring state (Mordovian Republic: Temnikov, 2011), which is the southernmost of the published spreading points (see the whole story in our paper). It would be highly unlikely that another introduced species of Sceliphron (Hensenia) would appear there (from SE Asia), so close to the first one. Off course, however unlikely, there is a theoretical possibility for such an event... in any case, it would be most useful to catch some specimens (preferably in high % alcohol). If the same species (=deforme) is here, it might happen to be the case of re-usage of another species nest (S. destillatorium), certainly an unusual behavioural modification?

I would greatly appreciate to receive more details of these pictures (exact locality, date/s, author, etc).

Best regards from Serbia!
