Is it rare?

10.10.2013 1:15, I.solod

in some places it is common. If possible, I would ask for a couple - just not from Eastern Ukraine. In some places in the north, on the upper reaches and along the reed banks of lakes, it is common, as in Polesie (Belarusian and Ukrainian)

This coptolabrum is located somewhere near Shaporinsky. There is no way to view the label, but you need to identify the photo.

At that time, the Georgian SSR was still part of the Soviet Union. Label data refinement: ~ 20 km N Tsalka town, Kyaryak village (based on maps - Kariaki). One of the most common ground beetles of the genus Carabus in the late summer period in the low - and mid-mountain belt (up to ~ 3000 m, where it is gradually replaced by the dominant group of Sphodristocarabus) on rocky slopes with a mountain thyme shape. In spring, there is also an abundance of Zabrus aurichalceus with the most diverse color of elytra, two forms of Carabus maurus and often Carabus stjernvalli, including those with dark elytra.

However, we like to describe species based on minimal differences in endophallus.

3 and 4 are Carabus (Rigocarabus) choui Deuve
, but they are also black and completely run around (there are different houses)- but I don't know 1 and 2
with Shaanxi:Qinling Shan Mts.: Mt. Taibai Shan Massif only as if one species of this subgenus is described
so far and # 1 may not be this subgenus beetle in general
# 2 is some kind of deformed aedeagus-maybe it is a freak from choui Deuve, 1989-but it is slightly different in habit.
the bag would not solve much - and so fortune-telling goes - there is a lot that runs sympatricly.

Oh, I don't like this archaism of the aedeagus. If you expand it by 10-15 seconds, it's a completely different picture.
I looked in the collection at aedeagus qinlingensis from the right angle - the shape is exactly the same as you in the photo. The edeagus bend is clearly visible in the full-face photo.

in my photos, the emphasis is on the correct horizontal exposure of the endophallus.

What is this species (subspecies)?

IMHO, Carabus (Morphocarabus) odoratus ssp. It is a pity that the label does not indicate the biotope and height. The ssp is specified for Altai. dohrni Gebler, 1847. Although, in my opinion, some of the subspecies are quite conditional.

height 1600 m (written on the label)

Thank you, I didn't immediately make out what the height was. The value is appropriate, C. odoratus is confined to altitude and tends to stony soils. This is a polymorphic species, because you just need to blow out the endophallus and everything will immediately become clear.
