It's like a "flying McDonald's ad" tongue.gif
What is this miracle really? I've never met her before...

Taking this opportunity, I want to ask, it was interesting for a long time, ordinary mosquitoes have small red balls attached under their bellies, one at a time (m. b. two at a time, I don't remember) What is it?? (Nizhny Novgorod region)

23.07.2012 21:19, Arikain

Most likely - larvae of parasitic ticks from the Parasitengona cohort.

thanks for the answer, I searched the web, it looked like this really the same

Today, these flies appeared on the balcony, one in the morning, the second in the evening. Apparently a male and female of the same species. Quite large, both 1.6 cm. On Syrphus sp. it does not seem to be similar, it is somewhat larger and the pattern on the abdomen is slightly different.
Karelia.

Thanks!
I'll move it to Diptera info then. I thought it was a very ordinary, "popular" fly.

I looked up the identifier and photo on the Internet, it should be-Scaeva selenitica. There's just everything, the keys to the location of spots and their color.

25.07.2012 22:46, алекс 2611

There is also Scaeva dignota, but it does not seem to be found in the Leningrad region

Good evening! Please help me determine what kind of Sirf this is. I can't tell if it's Syrphus ribesii or Syrphus vitripennis... how do they differ? Thank you. Central Ukraine, June 20. confused.gif

In my opinion, this is not Syrphus, but Eupeodes (ex. Metasyrphus), most likely E. corollae.

1. Helophilus sp.
4. Hemipenthes maurus in my
opinion 5. Apparently Cylindromyia brassicaria, I posted it a little higher smile.gif.
7. from the family Rhagionidae
8. perhaps some kind of tachina (Tachinidae)
9. I will assume that Xylota
10. some kind of babbler (Syrphidae)

Experts are likely to identify it better.

Well, now a little bit of me:
2. Tachina Gymnosoma sp. The genus is genital, up to the type of photo is unlikely.
8. Something like Tachina fera (Linnaeus, 1761). Probably. smile.gif

I ask for the help of competent comrades in a somewhat unexpected definition.
Place of origin of inclusion-pos. Yantarnoye, Kaliningrad region. The photo was taken on professional equipment, but the quality of the photo leaves much to be desired, which is caused by physical problems. characteristics of amber. The first photo has a scale ruler. If necessary (to determine), you can try to remove other angles/fragments.
Thank you. smile.gif

No, this is from the same subfamily - Xanthogramma, the photo is not very good-most likely X. pedissequum. On the second - Anasimyia lineata, also a babbler.

It is very similar to Tachina fera only slightly smaller and the belly is dark with light gray spots on the sides of the abdominal rings, it was not possible to take a photo in kind

Absolutely right! In the middle zone, at this time, out of a group of 2-3 closely related species, it can only be festivum.
