Thank you) And before the type they are not determined by the photo?

I have never learned to identify this genus. frown.gif

When determining an insect that is completely unfamiliar to me, I prefer not to choose the most likely option, but to take a determinant and try to DETERMINE the family first.

Or maybe there are hairs on the eyes, but not very noticeable? What magnification did you use?

Preciselysmile.gif! I took a closer look.. och there are small hairs and even translucent.. my magnification is max. 88.2

Hello.

Here is such a flea fly, 18.09.2011, Leningrad region, Lomonosovsky district, Ropsha.

Did I correctly identify the fly as the beekeeper Eristalis tenax?
Is it possible to guess who is sitting on its trunk and at the base of its wing?

Hello. Is it possible to determine at least approximately these flies? At the expense of the first suspect Chloromyia formosa. Thanks!

1. Probably really Chloromyia, but it should have hairy eyes, and here I clearly do not see hairs. Another option is Sargus.

2. Scathophaga stercoraria

3. It looks like something from the Hybotidae type Platypalpus

Tell me, what do fruit flies eat? This winter they've got people who eat chocolate, coffee, bread, and anything else. Previously, they appeared as standard, in the summer, when melons with watermelons of all sorts, but in the absence of these, they never bred...

These photos show two representatives of my favorite family. Stratiomyidae-Lion cubs. I'm not an expert, and this is my personal guess shuffle.gif
25.06.2011
1. Beris morrisi ? confused by the strong darkening of the wings
13.06.2011
2. Seioptera vibrans
3. Microchrysa polita
4. representative of the long-whiskered diptera, male Dilophus sp.

Thanks for the hint, the first one comes out like Beris clavipes
the fourth one seems to me to be a fly, not a bibinid, it may help that the head is large (wider than the pronotum) and the segments of the hind legs are dilated

16.03.2012 16:45, OEV

I have a feeling this thing is from the Platypezidae.

Then is Callomyia possible ?elegans

Hello! The photo shows the remains of an already dried insect. I was struck by the amazing strength of the shell-like a tick. I tried to crush her eight times with blunt and sharp objects and still the chitin didn't burst and she kept jumping on my hand. What is this strange view?

this is more likely avian-Ornithomyia. For the hippoboski size is not out ) She also flew into my room last year.

One of them is someone. They just drop their wings after they find the "owner".

not all of them. This is most likely Lipoptena if the wings are broken off.

Hello. Being on an expedition to the north-west of the Tver region, last year, we found such a formation of flies. It was attached to a tree branch hanging over a small river, at a height of about one and a half meters. Some of the flies were still alive. Help me identify what it is, thank you in advance.

Very interesting animals, as it turned out:
"Female Atherix ibis gather together, sometimes up to 1000 specimens, and lay their eggs on tree branches bent over the water; after laying eggs, they die, and the eggs and bodies of females, glued together by a secret, hang in a large cluster on the branches. The larvae feed first on the organic matter of dead females and secretions, and then fall into the water and live as predators."

Hello everyone.22.03.2012 I took a walk along the Moskva River near Zhukovsky and in the old thistle stalks I found these pupae about 3 mm in size,I took several segments with pupae home.
Today, a fly came out, the size is approximately the same as that of the pupa 3 mm.
Can someone tell me who it is?

Who could it be? Today on the Desna River bank.
If this is a female empis, then why does it have such small mouthparts?
