Won't you look at my fly in the snow in this branch?

http://molbiol.ru/forums/index.php?showtop...0&#entry1276467

Thank you.

I think it's either phorida or ephydrida. It's hard for me from this angle. And the size is difficult to estimate. I'm leaning towards Forida, most likely I was looking for some rotten stuff or a corpse there. smile.gif They are like that. Some forids live in coffins, 2 meters underground (imago!) they can crawl in...

Thank you so I don't get confused, this isn't from the Sphaeroceridae?

I thought it looked like these (thickened first two segments on the hind legs?)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Limosina.silvatica.jpg

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Copromyza.equina.jpg

And yet, they met for a kilometer in the snow on the road that I have been walking for many years.

Boris, unfortunately, I'm not even close to an expert on them - I just assumed that in such cases it's akin to suicide. But it looks like you're right - very similar to the photo. Spherocerids, perhaps. One saprophages are very different.

Because of this, I registered on dipter.info (that's what curiosity brings yes.gifyou to ) I marked up the photo, and I was told that it was from Spherocerids, and possibly Crumomyia (syn. Cypsela, Borborus).

Returning to this winter-thaw message from 2011, I want to add pictures of a very similar fly, the most popular now in Losino-Ostrovsky Park in Moscow, flying and mating over any water surface.

By the way, yes. I call all the ktenophorins ktenophorins in a philistine way. The last photos show a male ctenophorina (with comb-like antennae). I attach the key, but I don't have much time. frown.gif

There, by the way, there is a wingless (well, almost, much shortened) C pedestris species that obviously runs famously on the surface (which also surprised me in my albeit normally winged fly). By the way, last year this wingless species was found (judging by the article by Zayki and auth. in the Bulletin of Zoology?) for the first time in Ukraine.
