1 Scoop. Some kind of polyvoltine type, most likely.
2. A. rumicis
3.?
4, 5 - something from Crambidae, most likely.

Take care of - try giving sorrel, for starters.

thailand. October 13, 2014. The tree looks like a mango, but I'm not sure. When poked at first, the caterpillar exposed horns from its forehead, transparent and shaped like a slingshot with a drop. Then I stopped doing this, apparently realizing that they wouldn't eat it.
Photos of this often came across on the Internet, but I don't remember the name. Photos are enlarged.

Definitely not Arctia villica.
On your photo Phragmatobia fuliginosa - 100%. In autumn, they crawl in large numbers on roads and other open, well-warmed places. Arctia villica is not suitable in terms of timing (in this case, the beginning of October): in A. villica, the caterpillar of the third age overwinters, in P. fuliginosa - the fifth (it pupates in the spring without taking food). The third-instar caterpillar A. villica is very different in appearance from the fifth-instar caterpillar P. fuliginosa. In addition, the head and false legs of A. villica caterpillars are red, while those of P. fuliginosa are black.

P. fuliginosa in the Moscow region is a very common, often occurring species, while A. villica is very rare, isolated specimens, and not in the entire territory of the Moscow region, the chances of meeting its caterpillar in the Moscow region are scanty.

This is not A. villica, this is definitely Phragmatobia fuliginosa, by the way, if you breed, feed well and keep warm, it can pupate soon. I kept mine together with Arctia caja, those I grow from eggs, they are all warm and well fed, safely pass the third age, and at the fifth age they always pupate without wintering. This time, out of 80 pupae, more than half of the adults have come out, and another 40 caterpillars are preparing to pupate. P. fuliginosa got caught on a forest path, threw it to them, it also pupated two days ago, and this is not the first time with these bears. So feed them well. Bears eat a lot of things, almost everyone loves cabbage, it is always good in stores.

Thank you so much for the detailed explanation. Unfortunately, I didn't adopt the caterpillar. It didn't seem interesting. Now I see what a beautiful butterfly it would make. But if I didn't know what kind of caterpillar it was, what to feed it, and how to keep it in a city apartment, I don't think I would have been able to get a butterfly out of it. And you have a whole farm. smile.gif

The farm consists mainly of mantises and beetles, but there are not so many butterflies. smile.gif Today, a male Hyphoraia aulica appeared and another recently found P. fuliginosa pupated. Hyphoraia aulica first brought out at this time, on September 25, I found a caterpillar, apparently preparing to spend the winter, but at my house it suddenly changed its mind, grew up and pupated. I ate too much on the purchased lettuce and cabbage.)

Congratulations on the addition. smile.gif
