I read that if a harpy caterpillar has such a spot on its side (above the second pseudopod), then it is not Cerura vinula, but Cerura erminea. Please comment. Saint Petersburg, 06.07.2015, on a willow/willow tree.

A caterpillar on a burdock leaf and two monsters from a soil trap. I suspect dragonfly larvae, but why then for a dozen meters from the nearest reservoir. The size is about 8 cm. North of the Omsk region, forest zone.

Tell me please. What is the caterpillar in the photo? The photo was taken on June 25 in the Smolensk region near the village of Korovka, Rudnyansky district.

Similar to Cerastis rubricosa.

And the caterpillars are black.

Such mulberry nests are characteristic of Yponomeuta, and the caterpillars themselves are not visible in your photo.... frown.gif

On the burdock leaf - burdock.
Larvae of floating beetles, I think.

Hello! I found it, as you suggested, late at night in the Saratov forest (I was with my parents) on 12/07/15. The plant in the photo (dried up already) caterpillars were on the stem of 6 pcs. I got him hooked on the braconids. Four braconids were immediately paralyzed, and then laid eggs. Two caterpillars managed to hide. Since there was no food, one caterpillar ate another-I uploaded the video to Yandex. Disk: https://yadi.sk/i/3IY_nXx9htXjG
Thanks!

Now it's different! The plant looks like lettuce. Caterpillars, in this case, probably-lettuce scoop Hecatera dysodea. http://www.lepiforum.de/lepiwiki.pl?Hecatera_Dysodea

Hello dear forum participants! Please tell me how to distinguish the gender of a linden hawk moth caterpillar? I can distinguish pupae, but I haven't seen caterpillars yet. Caught today on the road under lime trees, planted in a jar with lime leaves.

Surroundings of Kirovo-Chepetsk, Kirov region. (#7 region). July 17.
The caterpillar came from the forest on a backpack, and therefore I do not know the food plant. I thought about Eupithecia satyrata, but I noticed a "shield" behind the caterpillar's head, which I don't see in the caterpillars of this species in the photo on the network. However, the quality there is such that you can't see anything. Where to search?
