Very well, if this is really a peacock-eye, although it seemed to me from the caterpillar's skin that it was hairy at the level of a silkworm.
Do I understand correctly that peacock-eye pupae go to the MO for wintering?

Today, while walking around the Brest fortress, we found such a creature. Please help me determine who this is:

Mongolian jerboa, larva of the lionfish (Diptera, Stratiomyidae).

Extremely similar to them-we live near the outlets of hydrogen sulfide and radon sources. They crawl on seaweed. 4 centimeters each, if not more. Local "experts" call them "leeches".

Yeah, thanks. Well, in order not to get up twice , I once found a caterpillar, big, seven centimeters long, shaggy, black and red hair. I gave it to my daughter, she pressed it with her palm, and then cried for half a day, saying that the caterpillar had pricked her. And my wife said she could feel the hairs sticking out like needles. Is it real?

01.08.2015 13:31, ИНО

Absolutely. That's why these hairs exist. There are caterpillars that can actually kill you. Thank God, only in the far tropics.

Hello.

A certain insect lives in the water at a dacha in the Moscow region-it looks like a "worm with a tail", it crawls energetically under water on the surface of the water.

Maybe a fly larva, maybe not.
Just wondering what kind of insect it might be.
I've seen all sorts of insects, but I've never seen anything so unusual.
There are a lot of them, and they appear in the bath every year.

Here's the video:

Please excuse the poor quality, I took pictures with my smartphone.
Thank you in advance.

Larva of the lion fly

02.08.2015 22:45, Victor Titov

In my opinion, it is more likely the larva of a fly from the genus Eristalis (beekeepers).

03.08.2015 9:56, Dmitri

Thanks for the information.
Here I think, it is good or not to keep a bath with water in the suburban area..

Give the flies a drink of water or not..

Perhaps it is necessary to keep a bath with water, but it may not have to stagnate for weeks..

Just for information: from the larvae of bee flies (Eristalis) in the bathroom, there is no harm to your dacha plot. Well, if you do not take into account individual characteristics (disgust, innate aversion to everything creeping, etc.). And adult flies of the genus Eristalis - so they are generally useful: they are pollinators - they feed on flower nectar and pollen.

When weeding among duckweed-how is it? Do you grow rice?
Similar to http://www.lepiforum.de/lepiwiki.pl?Acronicta_Rumicis but it doesn't live in the soil.
