Hello ladies and gentlemen. This sunny guy's name is Theodore, and the problem is, I don't have the faintest idea what kind of beast he is. It was found by me in Simferopol on October 1 near a blackberry bush. Soon it buried itself in the ground and pupated. I will be extremely grateful for the info :z

These are the pouch covers (Psychidae)
Judging by the structure of the covers and the head of the caterpillar - someone from the Oiketicinae.
More precisely, you can say, knowing the size of the covers.
Also, based on the type of caterpillars, the fact of fire and the time of collection, we can assume that they are not alive.
Or did you manage to find covers with live tracks?

Maybe you can identify my pouch as well ? Moscow region, on the birch, June 25.

Good afternoon! Today, on December 9, 2017, we bought a fir tree in OB, a live caterpillar fell from it. Fir (instead of Christmas spruce) from Poland! Now it is in the bank, does not eat(offered rose petals, rose leaves, of course fir, arugula. Crawled-crawled and now stopped, put under the lamp and she again hid behind a leaf in the shade and again does not move. Maybe someone knows what kind of view it is? And the more it is fed 2 cm, on the back of the hair darker and longer

Phragmatobia fuliginosa
You can give her a dandelion. Caterpillars of this species are nocturnal. The caterpillar is apparently looking for a place to pupate.

NIKSTER, where can I get a dandelion? Winter is coming; (((

If there is no snow, then dandelion leaves are not difficult to find. In theory, it should eat both cabbage and rose petals, as it belongs to the Dipper family, whose caterpillars feed on many plants.

You need to put the caterpillar in a jar with papers, moss, etc., let it hide there. And put the jar in the refrigerator, and let it stay there until spring. In the spring, put the jar in the heat and wait for a butterfly or flies.

In addition to T. notha, for example, T. arcuata also feeds on clover. Plants for sawflies are best viewed here: http://sdei.senckenberg.de/ecatsym/
But even there, information on forage plants is far from complete. This year I found several sawfly species on the clover, including Tenthredo sp, two of which were definitely feeding on it.
In addition, when feeding, I noticed that some species during the rest period crawl away from "their" plant.

As for this larva, it is from Tenthredinidae, but I don't know further. Perhaps even Tenthredo. Some of them are solid green (atra, solitaria...)

... And then there are two dozen Tenthredos with unknown faces smile.gif

I usually do this with wintering bear caterpillars, leave the jar warm, cut the lettuce leaves (bought in the store) so that the juice stands out and put it on it, or cover it with them (Phragmatobia fuliginosa), it turns out that in this way I force it to start eating), it does not hold back and begins to feed and pupates in 5-8 days, and after another 15-17 days, a butterfly comes out. I haven't left them for the winter yet, usually I bring everyone to the imago without wintering, only 2-3 probably died, and then most likely because of parasites. And I don't hide the jar in the dark, you need moderate lighting.
