Thank you so much for the definition! (and for your comment)
I really wanted to hear confirmation.
The fact is that Djon made such an assumption, but at the moment
we have not found an image of this caterpillar on the network...

It doesn't look very much like C. argentina. There are a lot of images on the web. For example, here:

bubaceki is a subspecies subspecies substituting for argentina in the far west of Europe.

Were there any hawthorn or blackthorn trees nearby?

It was crawling on the grass under the trees, I thought, to find a place
to pupate.
Photo without "staging".
Under a large group of trees in the center photo #3. It looks like an apricot there, but
I can't say for sure.

I'm not sure.
I can't really see my head.
In the Crimea, verbasci has a bluish head. A reddish head should be in scrophulariae.

Yes, indeed... frown.gif
And now I like Cucullia lychnitis even more...

And now I like Cucullia lychnitis even more...

There was such a thought. But in the Crimea, lychnitis caterpillars, although very common, always fatten only on dog norichnik. smile.gif Yes, and painted (Crimean) a little differently.
In general, it is better to remove caterpillars of this appearance. At the very least, remove them from different plants and then already know what species live on what in this particular area.

update
The error came out. Cucullia blattariae develops in the dog's burrow in the Crimea. I haven't seen lychnitis yet.

So the family is Pestrianki. I don't know about the view. Cocoons of many species look the same.

02.01.2012 21:26, VBoris

Sungaya, I understood, just decided to clarify the size. You never know...

02.01.2012 21:51, Sungaya

VBoris, no, I do not know. Maybe someone will tell you more precisely.

I just decided to check the size.

VBoris, there is no need to invent something that you don't remember. The cocoons of mottled birds are about twice as small.
Pictured is Zygaena sp. To be more precise, I need at least to know the variegated fauna of Belarus.

173del (affected by a fungus?) - mid-September

The first one is affected by a parasite.
The last one is Eupithecia centaureata or something...

maybe I really messed up.

The size is measured with a ruler and recorded. And everything that is "by sight" and from memory is usually very doubtful.

okoem, who could it be (parasite)?
The caterpillar was hard and died (or did not die) in a rather strange position.

The caterpillar died, of course. And what kind of parasite, I do not know.
