2. Most likely Melitaea aurelia Nickerl, 1850, but it may also be Melitaea diamina (Lang, 1789).
The caterpillar of the shashechnitsa No. 3 is very interesting. I've never seen one like it. It's a pity they didn't feed you. weep.gif

In my opinion, the larva of some click beetle (Elateridae).
IMHO: you need to output it.

I think it might be Phoebe. In the Crimea, too, two-color are.

Still amazing phoebes. Incredibly changeable, like butterflies, like caterpillars.
I've just viewed your page http://babochki-kryma.narod.ru/frame.htm
indeed, there are two-colored spikes. Does it look like it's in young caterpillars?

Please tell me, or give me a link. Is Cuba part of the Hercules beetle's range? Apart from Wikpedia, I have not found any other data on the area, but even these ones raise great doubts. The territory of Cuba is not included in the area of Hercules, but according to some other sources, the territory of the Dominican Republic is included. Although Wikpedia and Dominicana are also not included on the site map. And one more BUT! In November 2011, in Cuba, in Varadero (Icacos Peninsula), I found a very large larva, similar, as it turned out, to the larva of the Hercules beetle. There is a photo, though without a scale ruler, which I can't post yet for purely technical reasons.

18.03.2012 1:29, Wild Yuri

There is no Hercules in Cuba. You should discuss the topic in the section "Life and mores of insects".: http://molbiol.ru/forums/index.php?showforum=52.

18.03.2012 13:16, guest: Анатолий Константинович

Thanks for the tip! I didn't immediately figure out which section it should have been posted in. I assumed that this is a question for professionals, that is, a professional one. Since I am not an expert in entomology , I offer my deepest apologies for my mistake!!!

Maybe you are right that there is no Hercules in Cuba, but in all encyclopedias there is such information about it,, there are no similar species,,!!! And what kind of species does the larva I found in Cuba belong to-very similar to the larva of Hercules, especially in size!?!?!?

And by what signs did they determine that the larva is similar to the larva of D. hercules?

19.03.2012 18:43, vasiliy-feoktistov

Duc like and there is no it in Cuba: some data. Pretty close, though confused.gif

Again, I'm not an expert. I didn't identify it, but just assumed it after I saw a photo of the larvae of Hercules. First, the scale is almost (if not quite) identical, and the phrase from all encyclopedias ,,there are no similar types,, - suggested this assumption. Since I can only be a guest on this forum, I can't post a photo. As soon as you can post it somewhere, I will definitely give you a link.

Maybe a Megasoma of some sort.
The photo probably won't help much - I don't know (at least to me) what signs to look for.
By the way, you can post a photo here by registering.

Ask the moderator a question.

At first there was such a desire, but I changed my mind, I don't want to look like a complainer. I don't know how to complain at all, I haven't learned it in 51 years, and now it's a little late...
