31.03.12 Rostov region, Novocherkassk, on asphalt.

A bear of some sort. Phragmatobia fuliginosa (Linnaeus, 1758) is similar.

Definitely not Phragmatobia fuliginosa, my caterpillar is black.

31.03.2012 14:56, vasiliy-feoktistov

Definitely not Phragmatobia fuliginosa, my caterpillar is black.

I don't see such a "charcoal" blackness in the photo. And I don't rule out variability.
However with the definition I can be wrong: it's not evening yet and maybe someone will refute it.
Verdict: you need to display it smile.gif.

There are some rhinos in Cuba, and their larva. In general, divination is not a rewarding activity.

The first is some barbel, and the second seems to me to be some kind of elephant from conifers like Hylobius sp.
Before the appearance-alasconfused.gif, I can be wrong with the second one.

It should not be under the bark of conifers, like.

Well, I was tinkering with them that spring and I remember exactly what they look like, especially since I have a copy on my wall.. well, exactly. and the one that you suggested ... look at the head + hair size ratio almost none

Maybe bronze: pine confuses me. Although on conifers like the larva of a single bronzer does not develop wall.gif. Can we assume that the pine is rotten to pieces?

This pine tree is from 1965, rotten all over, but still standing. It's about to fall on someone's head...Due to the lack of dry trees nearby, aurata is also possible. This is our background view.

Yes, and we have an aura of "garbage": I change my opinion in the direction of it. Is the larva large?

Now measured-27mm.I took both of them in the same substrate. The apartment was sluggish. And I took it out on the balcony yesterday, the activity increased dramatically. In general, I will wait...

It was worth feeding in the same stump. This is not a zoophobas (blackbody), but the larva of some click beetle.

why should I drag the stump home?

05.04.2012 12:25, vasiliy-feoktistov

why should I drag the stump home?

Visit the stump periodically and watch smile.gif.
Actually, I don't know: I only take the imago or pupa from nature: I don't mess with the larvae.

Maybe a dustpan. If a butterfly comes out, it will become clear. smile.gif

It is there. It fed on various herbaceous plants. Crawled on the rocks-it happens.

see what an interesting mimicry... I didn't even realize right away that the head was on the other side.. until she started crawling..
Who is it and what does it eat? yesterday under the bark of a pine tree (Voronezh)
PS very close were black ants, maybe it's the larva of some myrmicophilic beetle?
