Well, how can you prick an insect on a pin with a hook?!! It's not self-respect.
And pins without a head or hook at all are somehow inconvenient to use. My heads flew off several times - I then changed the pin.

The hook is much better and more reliable taken with tweezers than the head. A pin with a head can only be properly grasped with curved microsurgical tweezers, under the head, and there is still a risk that it will turn around its axis, which can be fatal if insects are densely located in the box. Also, the head has the unpleasant property of falling off in gasoline. A pin without everything has a great advantage when photographing, if you want to hide its presence in the picture. But the rest is more a matter of taste, I don't see anything unpleasant in the hook, and for someone, probably, there is not enough glamour in it.

Maybe someone else remembers there were Soviet entomological pins in the USSR in oiled gray paper packaging or in white...they rusted, of course, terribly quickly-although they seem to have been varnished.... they could be bought even in a banal city store of visual aids for schools. In the 80s, they were still nothing with a fused head (apparently there was a device like welding + and -, the blunt tip was melted). And then, for some reason, pins went with these banal hooks on the tip... inconvenient things are terrible - stick them back and forth, and take them out... these hooks were always clinging to everything... They can be seen in the collections of universities or museums where they were engaged in entomology. Nobody even heard about imported ones back then - people in the outback made pins out of everything... I've seen all sorts of them, but I didn't save them. Now please buy whatever you want , but we can't afford bourgeois prices... although for valuable copies, I try to use expensive pins.

I decided to see what they were doing in the Tea Shop.
The cost is about $ 1.3 a pack, including shipment, there are many suppliers, and the manufacturer, as I understand it, is one.
And I will say, for this price, the product is good. Sharp, hard, the only drawback is that the heads are not too neat and differ in size. Really acc. zero, although the characteristic indicates a diameter of 0.38, which is closer to unity.
