Hello! Recently I came across this forum,I have already read a lot.
Since childhood, he was interested in various insects and arthropods, caught them, collected them, and bred butterflies from caterpillars. Then, as they grew older, other pressing interests and problems naturally appeared.
Now, having come across your forum and especially seeing photos of beautiful collections, I decided to start collecting my own.
I am also interested in insects from an artistic point of view, so to speak. Since I am an artist and designer by profession, I find many interesting ideas in the shapes and colors of many insects(even not necessarily tropical ones) for future implementation in my projects.
and after reading in the forum topics about collecting insects and preparing them for the collection, several questions arose:
1) I am interested in the details of storing caught insects before they are unfolded - after all, it seems to me very easy to break off the foot of a dried beetle that has caught on the cotton of the mattress, etc.I am also very interested in the problem of parasites of the collection-kozheeds and others. What methods of dealing with them exist and what chemistry is better to use? I will most likely have to store the charges on mattresses and bags for a long time before they are spread out,I would like to know about the "pitfalls" of such storage.
2) The issue of capturing and storing hawkmoth. How is it better to catch it so that the hairline does not get frayed? And what is the best way to store it before unpacking?
I heard here the opinion that it is well stored in cotton wool. And also, does it require gutting and stuffing its belly with something to preserve its volume, or does it not lose it when it dries out?
3) Actually, the question is the same as about hawk moth-what insects may need stuffing to preserve a more natural look7
That's all for now. Thank you so much in advance! If anyone knows what sites with a detailed description of the techniques of catching and saving a captured person, please throw links at me.
I will start collecting a collection of commonplace things. now I'm interested in literally everything, but in terms of names and classification, knowledge is slightly higher than the school level so far)
Well let's slowly fill in the blanks
