Very beautiful photos!!!

18.03.2007 14:08, Dmitrii Musolin

beautiful! but neither the author of the type, nor the year, nor var., nor ab. they don't appear in italics. let's try to do everything right, especially if it is posted in the public domain.

18.03.2007 16:22, Nilson

Great photos!

19.03.2007 11:59, Tigran Oganesov

It would be nice to print the name of the type not on the photo, but in the message.

And Lytta flavovittata Ball. does it meet in Issyk-Kul?

21.03.2007 13:31, Mylabris

Occurs. Mostly on honeysuckle, lilac and ash. Form large clusters that smell very specific from afar (some of the nest of mice resembles)

29.03.2007 16:15, Cerambyx

Do L. flavovittata have any stable differences from L. vesicatoria? In the Southern Urals, vesicatoria with a sufficiently developed yellow longitudinal band of elytra, which can reach the middle of their length, are very common. If they are vicariants, does vesicatoria change to flavovittata at the range boundary, or do they just not touch? Ecology as I understand it is the same, we have vesicatoria most often nibbles the same plants.

In general, the topic is interesting. Not for nothing before flavovittata was considered as a subspecies of vesicatoria. In my opinion, these are allopatric species. The line of overlap may be in the area of the Dzungarian Alatau or Tarbagatai with the Saur. But in the materials from those places, I have both types missing.

10.04.2007 11:01, Cerambyx

By the way, I have similar striped vesicatoria from the vicinity of Semipalatinsk.

And here are some more Meloes (I add my bad scans to cool Mylabris photos only because of their scientific value):
1,2-Meloe aeneus
3-Possibly what was described from near Uralsk as Meloe gaberti Reitt. It is not determined by any determinants, you go to brevicollis. But in brevicollis, the sculpture is much rougher, and in this beetle (by the way, the specimen is not the only one), the sculpture is almost as delicate as in M. uralensis and M. reitteri (but the shape of the pronotum and head does not go to the latter in any way)
All beetles from: 25 km south of Orenburg, Pervomaisky district

Dinusik, T-shirt from the subgenus Proscarabaeus-note the shape of the pronotum and the extended middle segments of the antennae. Looks like M. proscarabaeus.

10.06.2007 1:06, Dinusik

But what about the iridescent scutes on the tergites? Or can they be of other species besides M. variegatus?

violaceus and proscarabeus have iridescent scutes no less.. (and if this is a proscarabeus, then there is nothing to say how much more iridescent its shields lol.gifare )
In T-shirts, first of all, you need to look at the antennae and pronotum.

10.06.2007 20:04, Mylabris

Iridescent scutes on tergites - the so-called "areoles" are found in the vast majority of T-shirts. Variegatus is primarily distinguished by a rather large body size and iridescent metallic coloration of the entire body (transitions from metallic green to copper-red) and not just the areoles.

Yes, I know about the mustache and pronotum. But it's good when you have the material at hand and you turn it around as you want, and on the photo (and even when the group is not yours) this is quite difficult. Moreover, in the DV identifier, these shields are just emphasized.

Thank you very much! But M. decorus has a metallic blue or purple head and pronotum, and my beetles have almost no ebb, as well as the whole body... And the pronotum of decorus is shaped like that of uralensis, and in mine it is about the same shape as that of brevicollis-aeneus... Or are these differences acceptable?
