Subgenus Archiplectes (Carabus)

Community and ForumInsects imagesSubgenus Archiplectes (Carabus)

Nilson, 18.03.2007 17:06

Archiplectes starckianus theseus, Briansky 1910-7-11. V. 2001 Krasnodar Region, Roc. Mountains. The key.
As far as I know, the beetle is quite common in the Caucasus at medium altitudes in deciduous forests, mainly on the southern slopes of the GKH (Black Sea coast).
According to Brzezina, the subgenus Archiplectes includes 18 species, all from the Northwestern, Western or Central Caucasus.

smile.gif Well, my name is in the PM, he will understand from whom.

Please enlighten me, plz. - how does miroshnikovi differ from prometheus? I looked at the pictures of both beetles - I didn't find any differences!

Are there any defining tables for achiplectes at all? And then they almost all look the same to me, except that idits, reuters are usually clearly visible, and the rest.. almost none smile.gif

Reuters can also be colored. For example, the subspecies gagrinus Ret. which Makarov and K have successfully reduced to synonyms. I, to be honest, also hardly distinguish some of them. More often, at the place of collection. I can be forgiven, because I have no biological education. Almost all of my bonuses are determined by Obydov D. V., for which I thank him very much. He came to see me once and turned over the entire collection.
After his departure, I have so many new subspecies...!!!!

GBP 14.00 = appr. US$ 25.48

Or even beetles (expensive):

By the way, you can also upload there: Checklist of Carabus of the world X / 2007 (only for subgenera: Limnocarabus, Euleptocarabus, Apotomopterus).

Or buy with your hands for 350 Eigo: Jeannel R., 1928, Monographie des Trechinae, L'Abeille Tome 35, 806p.

Canon A-710 IS camera, 7.1 Mpx. I don't use any attachments. Allows you to focus an object at a distance of 10 mm from the lens in Macro mode.

And what kind of lighting? I have a large approximation of the object turns out to be dark.

With lighting, Nikolai, and I have problems. I twist the lamp while shooting and so,and so! Need a ring illuminator (not to be confused with a flash smile.gif) Then there won't be any problems. smile.gif

Mega lighting isn't always required.. The best daytime, in the absence of direct sunlight.
And you can lighten photos like this, using Picasa

still have a tripodsmile.gif, but with trembling hands you have to take several photos, or even more.. something good yes comes out smile.gif

17.11.2007 10:21, Bad Den

Wrap an ordinary sheet of paper (standard office format) around the camera that stands on a tripod. And now, I almost forgot .Cut a sheet of paper in half. Then twist it.
Feel the difference!

What does this mean? How does the diffuser work?

17.11.2007 21:30, Nikolaj Pichugin

Wrap an ordinary sheet of paper (standard office format) around the camera that stands on a tripod. And now, I almost forgot .Cut a sheet of paper in half. Then twist and glue the edges together. It will come out like a cylinder. Before shooting, the camera will set the timer with a delay of 1-2 seconds. This will give you time to balance out fluctuations when you click on the "shoot"
button. This is a somewhat amateur method, it will save you from extraneous glare coming from different colored objects standing on the table ,around and distorting the color of the photographed object. And also, the lighting will make it more or less uniform from all sides.. Lamp on top. The beetle appears to be in the shadow of the camera. White balance - auto.
Feel the difference!

And what kind of lamp, a matte incandescent or daylight?
In Photoshop, of course, you can finish it, but you want to learn how to take pictures.

17.11.2007 21:46, Nikolaj Pichugin

In short, from all of the above, I draw a conclusion. In normal light conditions, the shutter speed should be long. And to do this, you need to buy a tripod.
Thank you all very much.

I photographed another view today:
Archiplectes rousianus Gott.
Unfortunately, only a male, I don't have a girl. Maybe someone in the storerooms lying around? mol.gif My gratitude will know no bounds.
I received a lot of questions about Mikhail Shestopalov. I answer all of them at once:
Misha and I haven't seen each other in a very long time. I've been trying to call him for three days, but it's no use. I think he's gone somewhere else. I'll let you know as soon as I get in touch.

I use this one ring illuminator.

So do you use the illuminator only when working with a microscope, or can you use it separately?

18.11.2007 23:55, Bad Den

Yes, I use it separately. True, on the lens of my soap dish (Canon A610), it is not fixed (the mounting screws are too short), I hold it in my hands. But on the DSLR lens it is quite possible to attach, I think.

Actually, in the check lists of Deuve, Brezina A. rousianus Gott. listed as a subspecies of Archiplectes polychrous Rost, 1892. As far as this corresponds to reality, I do not undertake to comment. rolleyes.gif

I will not argue, in any case, in the list of Carabus for the territory of the former USSR (K. V. Makarov, O. L. Kryzhanovsky, I. A. Belousov, A. S. Zamotailov, I. I. Kabak, B. M. Kataev, V. G. Shilenkov, Moscow, 1995) this beetle is designated as a separate species.

Did Obydov define it that way? Then everything is fine smile.gif

19.11.2007 14:17, Nikolaj Pichugin

Just for fun, I put rousianus on a par with colored polychrous. The only difference (from my amateur point of view) is the size, polychrous % 30 more. Without taking into account the location of capture and size-bugs one to one.
