This is certainly not Photoshop, but still. You need to tighten the lower right wing. Accordingly, the difference between the extended left and right lower wings will increase. The right lower wing is rather short. Probably a marriage.

"A good fellow, but a pedant!"

On the left, two rows of Kunashir, two rows on the right - Seaside. My opinion is that Kunashir-Actias gnoma Butler, 1877, Seaside-Actias sjoqvisti Bryk, 1948. If there are other options, please correct what is wrong.

Please enlighten us! How is it different from Artemis?!

Please enlighten us! How is it different from Artemis?!

The taxon sjoqvisti is a synonym for Actias dulcinea Butler, 1881. Artemis, dulcinea and gnome are reliably distinguished only by their genitals. See the article by V. Zolotukhin for 2011 (try requesting a PDF from the author, he happens on the forum). My friend talked to the author about this issue; as I understand it, there can be no 100% confidence in external signs. Neither "squinted" eyes-holes, nor lines on the wings, etc. will provide an accurate definition.

They differ very much in appearance, I can distinguish them at night right under the streetlight, you just need to pick them up by the dozens so that both types are in one place, and the eye gets used to it...
1. Actias dulcinea (which many call artemis) is a bluer shade than the greenish gnome.
2. The male whiskers of Actias dulcinea are more yellow and rounded than the more pointed and elongated greenish whiskers of the gnome.
3. The tails of the gnome are much longer than those of Actias dulcinea.
4. The apex of the forewing of Actias dulcinea is more rounded, while that of the gnome is more acute.
5. A cherry stripe along the edge of the forewing in Actias dulcinea with an indistinct white stripe, while in gnome the transition between the cherry and white stripe is contrasting.
6. Gnomes sometimes have transverse dark stripes on their wings, which are never present in Actias dulcinea, but this sign does not always work, there are completely clean gnomes. (the stripes are visible on this instance)
7. Well, the wingspan of the gnome is slightly less than that of Actias dulcinea.

Here, according to the totality of signs, it differs perfectly, but I repeat, you need to "fill"your eye

Yes, when filling the eyes, you can conditionally separate them from the dulcinea. However, no one has yet combined A. artemis with A. gnoma, although such ideas are found in the latest DV-2016 Catalog: "V. V. Dubatolov's study of serial material from the Amur region showed that the structural features of uncus, according to which the mentioned authors (Zolotukhin, Chuvilin) distinguish both taxa, pass into one another without a distinct morphological gap, and the ranges of the two forms completely coincide. Therefore, it is possible that A. gnoma is only a subspecies or synonym of A. artemis, but the decision requires a study of more extensive material "

I would like to note that no signs of unkus do not cross gnomes and artemis "one into the other without a morphological gap", their shape is different, and the ranges of both species are completely different, and their caterpillars are different - only their northern border partially coincides; it's just that Vladimir Viktorovich probably confuses the gnome and the insistent artemis.

The life cycle of peacock-eyed gnomes from Kunashir.

Females for eggs, collected three pieces, broken from 11.07 to 15.07.2017.
Eggs were laid immediately. Dulcineas flew in parallel, but only males, it's a pity, it would be much more interesting to bring them out in parallel. In the picture, where there are many of them, the lower left male dulcinea.
So, I got Grenoux from 12.07 to 17.07.2017
The caterpillars came out from 18.07 to 22.07.2017 there were three or four hundred of them, I suggested alder, birch oak, preferred birch. They ate well, but then they started to die out of three or four hundred to pupae brought only 10 pieces.
True, their fate was difficult, I fed the caterpillars of the penultimate age in the Urals, and the last age, in the Astrakhan region in a very dry climate, although I sprayed them, and fed them with a different type of birch, of course.
We were cocooned somewhere in early September.
Without diapause, we managed to bring out several butterflies, they were released on 23.09.2017.
