Once grushevaya street was a fantastic view - now in Penza apartments at night light is thrown through the balcony doors from the street...

Piri in the Ivanovo region is fantastic. smile.gif To attract wild males, I have female pavonias lying (in the form of cocoons with pupae, of course). I'm not going to take them out early. And now the question. When and at what time is it best to transfer them to the heat, so that their release coincides with the summer of males in nature?

the period of development of pavonia pupae in a warm environment is 7-10 days. Mass growth in nature, during the cherry blossom season. But pavonia starts flying almost from the end of April, and ends in mid-June. During the day, years from 9 to 11 and from 16 to 18 (en masse). We are neighbors, there should be no differences.

Please tell me about the tau females. The other day in the afternoon I observed males, up to 2 dozen exactly, and most of them were clearly tied to a small area along the clearing, realizing that there should definitely be females, I climbed the thicket, but to no avail. Yesterday I put the screen exactly in this place, before I had time to light the lamp, I noticed a female, she dived to the screen, flew to a young pine tree a couple of meters from the screen, circled around it and flew into the forest. The time was around 9 pm, deep dusk. Further on, there was no sign of tau in the light from 9 to 11. Actually, the question is, at what time of night (evening) do tau females fly to the light, was such a twilight flight accidental, or is it worth turning on the lamp from the beginning of twilight? And where should you look for them during the day, that is, where they usually sit, on tree trunks, at what height, or on the ground?

I flew to the Ryazan region from 23 to 1. In the Far East, we flew all night, the first at dusk.

Tell me, please, what is this Kuril Aktiasy? Collected on Kunashir from 17.07 to 29.07.2015. It seems that they are greener than the seaside ones in my collection. Seaside ones are more blue.

Sergey, in order not to guess-this is a thankless task,
just clean the top of the abdomen of 1 male.
If there is a pair of rounded "ears" - dulcinea,
if there is such a grater with transverse teeth like the crest of a gnome rooster.
Personally, I'm leaning towards gnome for now. But in the Kuril Islands there is also a dulcinea, its own subspecies.
If you need drawings for comparison - Eversmannia. - 2009. - Issue 19-20. - P. 21-31.
It is available on the magazine's website.

I'm on a business trip, and I won't be home for a while.
But what is dulcinea, I did not understand.
Three species of the genus Actias appear to occur in Russia: Actias sjoqvisti (Bryk, 1948), Actias gnoma (Butler, 1877), and Actias artemis (Bremer, 1861).
Or is it not so?

Renamed sjoqvisti. This is dulcinea.

On the left, two rows of Kunashir, two rows on the right - Seaside. My opinion is that Kunashir-Actias gnoma Butler, 1877, Seaside-Actias sjoqvisti Bryk, 1948. If there are other options, please correct what is wrong.

In the Vladimir region (bordering Ivanovo), male pavonians flew as early as May 19 last season.
I picked up my last year's report. There I really confused it with taumol.gif, which is not there (solid pine forest).

I will refute myself
Of course-the same tau is there (where - without it) wink.gif
Aglia tau (Linnaeus, 1758) (female)
26.05.2015 Russia, Vladimir region, Petushinsky district, district, village. Starye Omutischi, mixed forest, "in years", by day.
picture: Aglia_tau.jpg
Interestingly, she cut through the undergrowth during the day and quite quickly. Isn't that unusual for females? I wonder what this is connected with. Fertilized already?

Yes, fertilized and laid, most likely, the entire stock of eggs. Although according to my observations, this behavior is not very typical for them. At least all the tau females that are now in my collection (three copies) were collected at night in the light.

But I saw the female tau more often and caught her at dusk, using a net to follow her as I did during the day. During the day, the female was caught only once. At night, I never caught a female in the light, only males arrived.
Once again, early in the morning, I saw a female tau laying eggs in the crowns of birch trees at a height of 4 meters from the ground. Fluttering from tree to tree, sitting down.

This is certainly not Photoshop, but still. You need to tighten the lower right wing. Accordingly, the difference between the extended left and right lower wings will increase. The right lower wing is rather short. Probably a marriage.

Today, 15.11.2017, two male pavonians came out. It is noteworthy that they wintered with me three times, although some of their relatives left after the first wintering.
