From personal experience - wintering gren saturn should be in a small container (glass or plastic), necessarily ventilated with holes that are not accessible to parasitic tiny wasps.
Ideal storage option in a shed with an accessible natural ambient temperature and the exclusion of direct sunlight that can heat and dry the grass. It is not advisable to spend the winter in the refrigerator!

Thank you so much!!! Sorry. And which substrate is more suitable?

Without substrate and excess materials that can cause high humidity and as a result mold. Gren should not be in a crowded state, but evenly spaced.

It's not a trifenestrata, it doesn't exist in Malaysia. For determination of genital preparation

Here is such information I have:

04.11.2013 20:55, dim-va

This data was outdated about 7 years ago. Recently, several papers (Vrechlin | Naumann) have been published on the taxonomy of the genus Cricula, describing a number of new species. I'm afraid to touch on this topic, but these species differ both in the COI fragment and in the genitals. Unfortunately, according to external signs, only 3 mountain Chinese species are reliably bred.

Nudaurelia from Ethiopia. Probably N. ungemachti. Possibly a monovoltaic type. Obtained from tracks collected in November 2012. The butterflies came out in June 2013 in one day, multiplied. Pupae are now back in diapause. Probably until spring....

Hello!I would like to know how accurate and up-to-date the taxonomy of Saturniidae is on this site:http://www.nic.funet.fi/pub/sci/bio/life/insecta/lepidoptera/ditrysia/bombycoidea/saturniidae/index.html. For some reason, I did not find the genus Caligula there,in particular the species Cligula simla, which may have other synonyms. Is the genus Neoris represented by only one species, huttoni ?

And what kind of story was shown last week on Russian television.
The plot of the news video was as follows (I only saw the end): A woman in Ukraine found two caterpillars in the garden and put them in a jug and forgot... the following year, in the spring, she saw two butterflies come out. They showed some Saturnias (she seems to have released her butterflies!?) and a voice-over comment saying that they were butterflies of a super rare species... What was discussed and where to see it??

The widget is outdated. But I looked at this German site at the link, and did not find Actias sjoqvisti there. Even if it is not included in the subspecies of artemis. They don't want to study our butterflies...

No, there were completely different Saturniums shown - that's why I was interested... I thought they found something very rare... The plot of the story is the same - but the video of the butterflies themselves is completely different... well, damn TV newsmen give! It looks like they removed similar butterflies from those who breed some saturnium.... I don't remember the channel... I clicked on the cable channel... something like a news item... but the story is something like spring was!?? These are miracles...

The well-known A. Bazhenov shot a Goliath beetle in the vicinity of Sochi. And someone believed that it is found there. He also shoots various animals (wolves, lynx...) it looks like it's in the wild, but if you look closely, the net is stretched behind the trees!

At the 7th International Congress of the Entomological Forum/5th International Entomological Fair, held last fall in Moscow, I was lucky enough to purchase four cocoons of the peacock-eyed Saturnia pyri. In winter, the cocoons were kept in the common compartment of the refrigerator, I moved them to the heat at the end of winter (February 28). Yesterday (March 30) a female hatched:

Sergey and let me be curious - why was it necessary to bring out this female so early ??? In your area, it would be necessary to breed it in June and try to attract local males to it in fruit orchards.

Piri in the Ivanovo region is fantastic. smile.gif To attract wild males, I have female pavonias lying (in the form of cocoons with pupae, of course). I'm not going to take them out early. And now the question. When and at what time is it best to transfer them to the heat, so that their release coincides with the summer of males in nature?

01.04.2014 22:48, I.roK.ez

then Penzyak: sorry, I poked it wrong. TEMPUSu: I'm going to marinate my own until the May Day holidays, given that you have more north I will assume that it will be just right to prepare butterflies for the release on May 9, possibly earlier. In general, the predimago of pavonia normally withstands cooling to +2 +1 deg(my personal observations). within a week-10 days, so you can keep them in this state until the right moment.

In the Vladimir region (bordering Ivanovo), male pavonians flew as early as May 19 last season.
I picked up my last year's report. There I really confused it with tau mol.gif, which is not there (solid pine forest). but pavonia is full: http://molbiol.ru/forums/index.php?showtop...dpost&p=1408228 And in flight, it is not surprising to confuse: they fly quickly and both redheads smile.gif.
Pavonia geese of the third and fourth instars were collected on June 20. We must also take this into account.
