who thinks what about Maniola jurtina?
About 15 years ago, near Moscow (not far from Akulovo station, which is away from Kubinka Belorusskaya railway), I don't remember why, either a tank with ammonia leaked, or even the whole thing leaked out. This was briefly reported in the media. I do not remember how many weeks or even months later (but it is certain that in the same season) yurtins flew in the vicinity of the accident site with either the same or weaker highlighted wings.

Colleagues what is your opinion, this Catocala promissa is a bilateral gynadromorph? I think so, because the left pair of wings is larger than the right one, and the pattern in detail is somewhat different.

The right mustache broke off, unfortunately. However, you can try to glue the broken segment, and compare the length.

03.10.2013 13:48, Alexandr Zhakov

option: female. wing straightening defect

03.10.2013 14:35, Nicetas

option: female. wing extension defect

and why the wings, if both left wings are larger than the right? and then how can we explain the differences in the upper wing patterns (in some details they are not symmetrical)?

03.10.2013 14:52, Alexandr Zhakov

smile.gif
there were two wing extensions.
First: the butterfly was straightening, most likely there could be a delay here, one wing was freely filled with lymph, the other was pressed with something and less lymph was received, and hence the change in the wing pattern (smaller area)
Second, when you were straightening the butterfly, there could be a wing break, hidden folds(obviously this is not visible in the photo).
I stick to the first option in this case.
