With generators, it is mainly butterflies that go to the forests to catch, and the places characteristic of Tragosoma depsarium habitat are not very attractive for them from the point of view of catchability.

I caught the generator last summer in the place where Nikitsky got his tragosome (the notorious Dorogali-2). It was a very warm, moonless night, with butterflies flying in a dense wall smile.gif, and there were very few beetles, and obviously no trogosomes at all. By the way, the place is very good for butterflies.

The fact is that in our band tragosomes do not fly to the light. I.e. extremely rare (this is if you also take into account that they rarely happen)
They fly much better than they do to the east. They say they fly relatively well in Siberia.
It's the same with Cerdo, for example - it doesn't fly to the light at all. In the Caucasus, it flies well and, like in Georgia. Armenia, in general, is great.
As for the fact that tragosomes and some other rare barbels with a wide range are more common in Siberia, this is probably due to the larger number of old unaffected forests.

When did you collect tragasom?
With respect

From July 6 to July 15, 1996. In ' 97, I didn't see it at this time (although I left late. Closer to the middle of the month). It doesn't happen every year.

I recently passed through Kazakhstan from north to south in its central part. I hooked three prionins at once:

Northernmost Psilotarsus brachypterus

nice little bug

Most recently, I was lucky enough to purchase several copies of this unusual barbel.
Platygnathus sechellarum (Aurivillius, 1922). Male, 32 mm., Calayan I., N. Luzon, Philippines.
The beetle's history is remarkable. The species was described from a single female found in 1905 in the Seychelles. And for many subsequent decades, he was absent from the training camp. And then in 2002, it was unexpectedly found again, but 8000 km west of the type habitat – in the Philippines!
Platygnathini includes another species, Platygnathus octangularis (Olivier, 1795), endemic to Mauritius.
For more information, see the article by Z. Komiya & A. Drumont “Additional notes of Platygnathus sechellarum Aurivillius, 1922 from the Philippines (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae, Prioninae)", which is available on the Internet via a search engine.

Huge beetles were bred in the attic, I crushed them until I read about them here and there are one-to-one photos signed (psilonarsus brachypterus arelensis danilevsky). In length 45-50mm. I can catch and take a picture only I didn't understand how to post a photo here. And how to etch them from the attic tell me.

Prionus sp.

The specimen is unethical, but it was placed in the same box with beetles from Turkmenistan (Repetek), possibly from there itself.

In principle, it is similar to the under-colored male P. coriarius, but, unlike the male coriarius, the anterior prong of the pronotum is practically not developed. Maybe, after all, some kind of Central Asian species?

I recently received a Malagasy beetle as a gift. Like a rabid tragosome smile.gif
With a slight creak, it was possible to determine, fortunately, the male.
The beetle comes from the town of Andasibe (places with this name at least twenty-two around the island) , which is located in Central Madagascar, in the Antananarivo-Roguez region.

I managed to determine it thanks to the intervention of a foreign colleague, who corrected my interpretation of the attribute. And there are forty-five species of beetles there, and all of them are similar, some of them indistinguishable in appearance. So - not a fact smile.gif

Thanks for the definition.
I think it's good that I was able to separate barbels from other beetles. There were (not defined) about 150 images, taking into account repetitions, probably more than 30 types. I will gradually put it up for definition.

Beetles that are not Prioninae should now be removed from here. And in general, I personally do not want to see how a good topic is polluted by non-related beetles (although the beetles and their photos are good). This is not the "Definition of beetles" where you can put everything in a pile smile.gif
