Good evening, dear colleagues! I offer you a photo of 2 specimens of the rare desert scooper Chilodes repetiki. Place and dates of extraction-sandy semi-desert zone in the east of the Stavropol Territory: Levokumsky district, Svetly Erik tract 8.06.2019 and 12.06.2019. On the light trap.
Prior to this, in the Ciscaucasia, and perhaps in Russia as a whole, a single case of its capture was known: Budennovsk of the Stavropol Territory (1952 by N. Goryshin. ZIN).

Oh, so maybe I called her Chilodes distracta? The instance is from Ilovlya, a few dozen meters from the Lovlena River, so probably not after all. distracta same "near-water?"

Your butterfly doesn't look like distracta at all, as it is shown in NE9!

In this case, our Poplar specimen is also not distracta, they are twins with this butterfly smile.gif(perhaps a portal to the south opened on the night of capture, since Psorosa nucelolella also appeared at the same time).

Interesting...
Migrations of butterflies with air masses in Russia do not seem to have been studied at all. But in England, this is a well-known case - when sand blows north from North Africa and in December Euchromius ocellea falls en masse here.

You don't notice when you catch it: did the air masses come from the south the other day?
It has a meaning.

It was that night that I noted: there was a powerful heat removal from the south, a humid tropical air mass came, there were thunderstorms in the vicinity, but they were bypassed. An asterisk on the map roughly marks Poplar) By the way, Titanio normalis and Carpochena squalorella in Pestovo may also have thrown me with heat removal. There were many of the latter, but only one night.

Greetings, dear colleagues! I honestly didn't expect such a quick response and a surge of interest in my information. Moreover, in the Xyleninae section in front of me, no one has posted anything for several months. Thank you all!
A brief description of the species given by P. Y. Gorbunov in his book "Higher Lepidoptera of the Deserts and Southerns" is indicative of the relationship between Ch. distracta and Ch. repetiki. steppes Zap. Kazakhstan" (Yekaterinburg, 2011). 328. Chilodes repetiki Ronkay, Varga, & Hreblay, 1998* – Table 15 (4) Turanian species replacing Chilodes distracta in Kazakhstan and Central Asia. Apparently, it is distributed throughout Western Kazakhstan. Two generations. Butterflies are found in April-May and September-October.
My copies of Ch. repetiki were confirmed by A. N. Poltavsky (Rostov-Don).

Over the years of collecting lepidopteryls and surrounding regions, I have accumulated some material on them. I believe that there are fees of interest. Therefore, I decided to periodically present my information to you for review, comments and ratings.
I apologize in advance for the punctures in the design of collectible units. For example, many years in the absence of entomologists. pinned butterflies with tailor's pins, many address labels - by hand, I do not have time to type in the computer. However, I am gradually trying to correct it.

Greetings, dear colleagues! In my opinion, a new point of discovery of the rare Ryabov's scoop Luperina rjabovi is of interest. Previously, this species was described as endemic to the Caucasus with a distribution in foothill and mountainous areas. In September 2019. I collected a series of specimens (about 15 pieces) north of the Kuma River in the Prikum Sands in the east of the Stavropol Territory. Levokumsky district, uroch. Svetly Erik. Light trap. In the presented photo, ♂ caught on 22.09. 2019 and ♀ - 24.09.2019. The definition of genitals was made by A. N. Poltavsky.
I also offer photos from my Xyleninae of 2 copies of Proxenus lepigone, dated 28.08.2013 and 31.07.2018, as well as 1 Chloantha hyperici from 9.08.2015. On the light trap.

Hydraecia micacea

Thank you, Alexander, for the hint. I had doubts about the definition, however, I did not conduct a definition on the genitals. I was told that identifying a number of Hedraecia species even by genitalia is problematic. What is the difference between H. micacea and H. ultima in terms of appearance?

They differ quite well in appearance, they have already been discussed here more than once. many years ago, Oleg Pekarsky laid out here a scheme for the definitions of these types.

As for the big question, I guess that's not quite true. As you probably noticed, I display no more than 2 copies of images for viewing on the forum. of the same type. In my collection collections, the number of representatives of one species is usually higher. In particular, Mesapamea secalis in the collection of 14 pieces. From this series, 3 specimens captured in Budennovsk were identified by A.V. Sviridov (Moscow, MSU) by genitalia. Their photos are attached additionally. I just previously found it more aesthetic to display photos of entire copies.

Yes, indeed, these scoops are very similar in appearance. Please tell me the differences between Lacanobia thalassina and Apamea remissa? I have 4 more exp's. from Arkhyz, defined by me as Apamea remissa. If necessary, I can reset their photos in the section"Definition of butterflies". shuffle.gif

Butterflies belong to different subfamilies (as is customary here) Xyleninae and Hadeninae, the latter have hairs sticking out of their eyes, I can see them already at x10 magnification.
As for the rest, there are many differences, you can use at least these ones that the Poles offer

Yes, I took a closer look here(you want the best photos), the lower dark remiissa is Mniotype, most likely adusta

Butterflies belong to different subfamilies (as is customary here) Xyleninae and Hadeninae, the latter have hairs sticking out of their eyes, I can see them already at x10 magnification.
As for the rest, there are many differences, you can use at least these ones that the Poles offer

https://www.entomo.pl/forum/viewtopic.php?f=86&t=34866

Now, through the MBS-10 binocular (at a magnification of 8x2), I looked into the eyes of the dubious "remissa". Eyes clearly with hairs, i.e. You're right: this is 100% not Apamea. Therefore, the version you have defined is correct - this is hadenina L. thalassina. Thanks! It's just a pity that the proposed site doesn't open for some reason.
As for the second copy of "remissa". I carefully looked at the images of Mniotype adusta in the electronic atlas of a German site and I can't disagree with you. You are right again: the scoop is Mniotype adusta. Together with the species names, I am correcting the definitions in the species labels of both species to your name. Thank you again!
Now it obviously makes sense to display the other 4 photos of A. remissa mentioned earlier. In the near future, I will do this at the subforum "Definition of butterflies". I would appreciate it if you and other experts also look at them and correct them if necessary.

Good evening colleagues! I present another series of photos of xylenin scoops from my collection.
Apamea illyria- 20.08.2015г. Western Caucasus, Karach.- Cherkessia, Dombay,
Apamea illyria mountains - 21.07.2019 Western Caucasus, Karach.- Cherkessia, Arkhyz-Romantik, mountains.

There is also a big question about Apamea illyria, how confident are you in the definition?
I am told here, and I agree, that the male and female are from different species and even genera other than Apamea. but both species are from Xyleninae smile.gif

I am not sure about the definition of the instances you named. Moreover, the male from Dombay from 08/20/2015 is quite heavily circled. I would be grateful if you could tell me the specific names of both types. shuffle.gif
Ps: Tomorrow (Wednesday) morning I'm going on a business trip until the end of the working week. So I apologize if I don't respond to your response in time.

Male, small, this is an Oligia species, I can't say, you probably have several options there.
Female Brachylomia, most likely viminalis.

Polymixis latesco - 5.10.2018г. Stavropol Territory, Kursky district, village. Roshchino, Terskiye Peski. Light trap.

Here, too, a question and a question. smile.gif
Since the beginning of the question, the first male of Episemia glaucina, with such a small round spot has never been seen. but nothing else works.
The taxon Polymixis latesco for Europe is rather controversial, and they return to the old Polymixis trisignata. If you cook in large batches, females get Polymixis trisignata, and males do not go both ways. The Blue catalog contains only Polymixis trisignata for region 13.
And another suggestion, Peter, if the definition of species has changed after the review on the site, it is highly desirable to display these changes in your post. And then people look at the post and see the wrong types, you changed the labels in your collection, but here they are not correctly defined.
This is easily done by clicking on the button in the upper-right corner, "edit".

A. N. Poltavsky and co-authors in the" Annotated catalog of scoops of the North Caucasus and adjacent territories of Southern Russia " (2010) give only 1 species of the genus Brachylomia for our region: B. viminalis. Therefore, the view you are suggesting is probably the only option so far. Although to confirm this, I will still make a request by email to Alexander Nikolaevich. I will inform you about his response in the near future on the post. They usually respond quickly.
As for the flown male of the genus Oligia. According to the above-mentioned catalog, 3 species of this genus are known in the Western Caucasus. Therefore, until it is possible to determine the species belonging of an instance by genitals, I will put Oligia sp.

Alexander Nikolaevich gave me the catalog of the North Caucasus, but it's been 10 years. smile.gif In the Sineva 2019 catalog, there are definitely more of them for 13 regions.
Another species of Brachylomia is listed for the Southern Urals and eastern Ukraine. There is some chance that you might have one, too. smile.gif
