Digitized collection of Hymenoptera of ZIN

They recently sent me a link: https://www.zin.ru/collections/Hymenoptera/catalog.html. I've flipped through the first page so far, with betilids and glitters. The quality of the photo is lower than the baseboard: terrible HA, coma, and even a wiggle in places. About such trifles as properly diffused light and white balance, and there is no need to talk. Compared to any foreign counterpart, it's a disgrace. If you do not know how to do it yourself (which is very strange for leading entomologists of any country, and even more so in Russia, in our age) - hire a photographer or something...

whatever. reports are muddied - salary is dripping, career is spinning (and we know who this guest performer is, who does not catch anything for colleagues, but takes materials for an indefinite period. - and this also does not matter, since it is a special case of total use of the system )
(and in general, who needs it, it can help-it's better than nothing)

N, for some reason, the bourgeois system works fine, photos are a sight to behold.
Although the money, in theory, is also dripping. Apparently, the matter is in quality control - for an outright marriage, they are simply not recognized there.

I flipped through almost all the photos of emails from the ZIN site, only krabronid has good quality, but sfecid has tin in general, such processing could only be hindered by a visually impaired person.

The Australians have a total sample digitization system.
In fact, you can cut out the chalcid and immediately put it on the inat, and even more so for typical oss)
I have greatly reduced the image several times (not the preview, but further). How much it costs is scary to think about. Obviously, recognition and counting have probably already been tied to this, too.

three-dimensional digitization of exams is also not new, although we are talking about a 3D model and I did not see the result. (2017). In this paper, link to interactive 3D scanning microscopy images (2013)

Can I take a look at the original image of this tray? Resize was completely unimpressed, most of the insects are undetectable. This is only suitable for different specialists to take a look and understand whether they should pick at this particular portion, or immediately pass by. In principle, this is a useful practice, but it has nothing to do with" digital collections".

In the article on the first link, I found only the robot arm moving the crunch under the control of a webcam, where are the 3d models? The second link shows a type of scanning electron microscope, but this does not apply to photography. But it is obvious that in the near future 3D scanning of entomological collections will appear and, I think, it will be some kind of hybrid of focus stacking and photogrammetry. "Hardware" for this has long existed, just so far no one has written such software.

In the article on the first link
apparently the "activity report" is in the form of a publication, rather than a description of the method and collection. And about the Australian photo - the file name is saved-is it really difficult to send from the mouse menu directly to the search and enable image search? - then you can also go to the original source in addition to flickr, where everything else is. (this is about the intelligence of those who are worthy of participating in the sect, and not "make me feel good for me")

Ingenuity is given to a person for useful achievements, and not to pass meaningless quests for the right to be initiated into the secret society of swindlers of edeagngus lol.gif

Especially touching that instead of a direct link, you had to re-upload the resize to another site, so what? Make life difficult for yourself and others?

Well, I found this project, called Araba Bioscan. Some types (Australian Arabs?) they regularly pour the contents of the Maleza trap jar into the tray and take pictures with a completely household camera with a household autofocus macro lens. Fotik, not that the cheapest-pldnokadrovaya DSLR with 50.8 Mp, but about

re-upload a resize to another site, so what? Make life difficult for yourself and others?

I saved the resize for myself so I could find it if I needed it. but it is not necessary to respond to what they can do in an obvious way themselves.
About the layers, there was a thought that this is not what is expected. But even from a distance, it is almost comparable to the one presented in the original post. Probably for standard instances and more details can be done. But there the task is not the same, but for many field ecolas.research that gets the budget sucked in is much more meaningful this way. Such as faunal lists. well, we once noted another 3146th species in the region..(and they will rewrite it -having lost the source material - as Plavilshchikov identified-incorrectly - in each regular annual publication), and what has become clearer about it? - no taxocenosis,no participation rate.

It's a good thing that the technical issues are much clearer to you. As if there are opportunities, and they will be realized) Will there be at least some photo keys? or is it self-worth in the illustration? - And whether a meaningful sign got there or not, only a specialist will evaluate it..

On the ZIN website, Kirill Vladimirovich Makarov takes high-quality photos of Zhukov. Here, for example, a toddler size of 1.7 mm

100pudov we know! and I can't afford to evaluate something that is above praise from all sides, being myself far from his level in all respects.
(this is looking at the most common phenomenon everywhere, when ratings and opinions are given out by those who have not learned to choose))
This is our ideal!)
yes, at first it was about hack work, and then how to technologize the introduction of our mountains of corpses into circulation, if possible.
My definition from the screen goes better - the differences in proportions are too monotonous and barely perceptible, and even choosing the right "face"in the collection of neoprene material("somewhere it was-it would be necessary to compare") is still a task. and the marks of special signs on the labels are not very helpful.

Well, there are no complaints about beetles, the Zinovsky atlas of beetles has long been popular. There are also a lot of articles about photographing and scanning. But the "digital collection" of epaulettes is completely different.:

And these are all standard copies, how they will be "digitized" (if they will) is even scary to imagine.
