Yes, then plows, then no, then plows, but slows down. Hosters swear and promise that everything is about to get better completely...

Uh-huh, and there is spam in the community at this time (I see how it is possible to break through). What kind of hoster is this?

20.01.2011 19:19, Peter Khramov

And don't tell me. When they were on their own-people as people. And how RBC sold out, that's where it started...

To be honest, I am very surprised by this example. Can you find out in more detail what it can attract, in addition to the quality of information?

P. S. And in general, it's true, citizens, if anyone has seen a convenient function on any site or something else that is not on the site Lepidoptera.ru please let me know — if the thing is decent, I will try my best to implement it.

- There is a website about plants: http://www.plantarium.ru/
I think it is very professionally made and easy to use. Can I learn something from them?

About Plantarium-I agree, indeed, a kind of exception - a sane site in this subject. As for adopting-there is a system of the same geographical points and separately-landscape photos, these things may well be relevant for Lepidoptera.ru (partially discussed above). They can be said to be in progress. In addition, there are collections of arbitrary types-this is also useful, and also in the list of additions to the site is present. Also , the site help system (help center) has been made much more detailed - and this is also good, and also needs to be improved on the site Lepidoptera.ru.
If there are any other specific utilities on the Plantarium that could be a good addition to the Lepidoptera - please voice...
p. S. Another addition to the Plantarium: we have already discussed several times with Dmitry Oreshkin linking pages with species of butterflies and plants-that is, so that from the pages of butterflies there are links to forage plants on the Plantarium, and from plants on the Plantarium-to butterfly species. Do you think this is a useful case?

more than useful. I would say very needed

By the way, I have already decided with Dmitry Oreshkin about the macroid in terms of forage plants, and we have agreed on the interfaces for site interaction.
Does this mean that the Plantarium still has the ability to enter URLs with the names of plants, and not just with the Id?

21.01.2011 14:30, Peter Khramov

From the morning of January 20 to the morning of January 21 Lepidoptera.ru worked with glitches and interruptions due to the fault of the hosting provider. Now everything is fine, but some data uploaded during the specified period is lost. Learn more -- on the page http://lepidoptera.ru/community/2059/

Does this mean that the Plantarium still has the ability to enter URLs with the names of plants, and not just with the Id?

Yes , this was my request, and they implemented it the other day. Well, based on feedback - a list of insects by plant is given from the macroid. While it is not absolutely clear whether it will be displayed there, but judging by the fact that Dmitry clarified the details of adapting the interface, I think there will be mutual connections, although I certainly do not insist if they are not interested/necessary...
Of course, there is not much information yet, we just started doing this and are just trying it out, but for example, you can take a look at what happens approximately:
http://macroid.ru/showgallery.php?catinfo=1&cat=3542
Links to plants in the species description...
Of course, everyone is interested in what plants to look for a species. I'm even thinking that it's probably worth printing out photos of plants by spring in order to search purposefully... smile.gif

Yes, it's a good thing. The only thing is to bring all plants to a civil form (so that Latin is everywhere and everywhere). In general, it's only a matter of time. And there may also be some problems due to multiple links between sites, however, since everything is white and fluffy around, you can carry it ))

The second E-mail newsletter of the site has passed. I remind you that if you didn't receive it (but would like to), check the corresponding checkbox in your personal account on the site.
As for geography — the issue is still being resolved, but nothing is ready yet, because there were and still are other important things to do on the site. Nevertheless, it goes, it goes, and it's about to reach )

21.02.2011 19:49, Peter Khramov

It seems that the business with maps/points is already moving forward. I found, it was, an executor for this case, but I didn't skalosya, now there is a second person, so far everything is OK with him. If it continues like this, then somewhere in a week or decade there will be a feature on the site with setting up points...

21.02.2011 20:22, Konung

what is the situation with uploading photos in archives?

21.02.2011 21:41, Peter Khramov

With archives it is... shuffle.gif There is a task in the list, but it still hasn't been completed, because people upload so much without archives that I don't have time to publish it. This is why this feature will be implemented, but unlike the ability to edit data about snapshots, it will be implemented later than originally planned.

24.02.2011 0:40, Peter Khramov

Taki radil ahead of time. The function of uploading photos in archives is ready, and at the same time it also tries to determine the type by file names. You can ship up to 50 meters at a time. More detailed — http://lepidoptera.ru/community/4260/

I checked again, downloaded the archive file, and everything is OK. Right here http://lepidoptera.ru/community/4260/ I unsubscribed from the request to tell you what you need to do for the test to find out what the problem is in your case...

Now the views in in the catalog Lepidoptera.ru you can also select by country (as long as there is information for European countries). Example: 22 Lycaenidae species that are present in Greece (at least as migrants or drifters) and whose summer time includes May or June: lepidoptera.ru/catalog/?tax[]=7027&month[]=15&month[]=16&country[]=1022. The description of the species contains more detailed information about whether it is a skidder / migrant or not.

it's funny that the USSR appears in the list of countries )))

There is also Yugoslavia. Adjustments will be made gradually, but for a start-and the current version is very good.

Thank you.

The site has started publishing large-size photos in test mode using the example of 560 images of Vitaly Gumenyuk (http://lepidoptera.ru/gallery/?people=68&perpage=50&order=dt). Who is interested-see what is convenient and what is not.

24.03.2011 17:10, Martix

Personally I am comfortable smile.gifwith

27.03.2011 13:06, Peter Khramov

Today, the hoster will once again be engaged in manual labor with their servers, and therefore the site may be unavailable for 8 hours or so.

27.03.2011 23:26, Peter Khramov

The butterfly exchange system between users starts working in test mode on the site. Here http://lepidoptera.ru/community/5386/ details are discussed on how to do what so that everyone is comfortable, what is well thought out and what is bad and needs to be corrected. The general idea is that registered users can upload their lists (in one file), which are automatically parsed by the program, entered in the site database, and the corresponding information appears in the catalog indicating the types of exchange and users who have it.
Who is interested in this — welcome to the discussion at the link above or in this topic.

28.03.2011 12:14, Seneka

And that's right. In theory, if there were fees from the Novgorod Principality, then they would have to be displayed with this name.

Information about the former USSR is better than nothing. Infa based on a more modern division is better than about the former USSR. Is there really something to discuss?

28.03.2011 23:49, Seneka

This did not apply to modern photos, but to photos from collections where the original name should be preserved at the time of capture. For the site, these are probably small things that are not worth discussing.

29.03.2011 1:14, Peter Khramov

A. Then we are generally talking about different things. Captions to photos (location of shooting or catching a specimen) are a completely separate song. The USSR is also used among the list of countries, as a type property — for searching in the catalog. That is, now the site can not make a selection of species that are available in the Russian Federation, but only in the European part of the USSR. In the foreseeable future, we will change it to the Russian Federation...

A larger preview mode has been added to the gallery and catalog. In other words, you can now display a stopcut of the desired views in the catalog or photos in the gallery that are not 80 pixels in size, but 320 pixels on the larger side. If the monitor is large and the Internet is not lost, now it can be even more convenient to view views in the catalog and photos in the gallery.
By default, small previews are displayed as before.

10.04.2011 15:03, Peter Khramov

Then the question arose-why do people react so sluggishly to the system of exchange of dried specimens-no discussion, no wishes. What if the topic is completely irrelevant? I don't do this myself, so I can't do anything competent without feedback. Who changes — unsubscribe, what you would like, what would be convenient, and what is not...

12.07.2011 15:23, Peter Khramov

By points on the map (who found the view where):

So, for the system discussed earlier, the following initial possibilities come to mind::

— Actually, putting a placemark on a Google Maps map by a registered user Lepidoptera.ru/Lepidoptera.pro
— Snap a point to a view
— Snap a point to a photo taken by the same user
— Date/Time
— Definition accuracy
-Free-form comment

Question for all interested parties: do you need anything else? And in general, all sorts of comments are welcome. I understand that a lot of people are currently in the fields, but if anyone appears, please voice your opinions on this matter.

A similar theme has just been created on the site — http://lepidoptera.ru/community/6214/

it would be nice to make the views snap to a point. in the sense that you can put a point on the map and select the types that are found at this point with ticks.

Yes, you can link multiple views and photos to a single point at once.

A couple of news items

Since the system on the site sometimes leaves much to be desired, a strong-willed decision was made to update the database globally. To do this, data from the site will be superimposed on each other (O. Karsholt, J. Razowski (eds.), 1996. The Lepidoptera of Europe: a distributed chacklist with additions and changes on the site from various sources), with faunaeur.org (for European species), the Sineva catalog (for Russian species, only species and genera, not higher), with funet.fi (first of all, for exotics). At the same time, the system will become more adequate, the number of species and superspecific taxa will significantly increase, and superfamilies and other intermediate taxa will finally be fully used.
If anyone has any comments, suggestions, what else you can use — I will be glad to hear.

Finally, I received a signal from another programmer that everything is ready for integrating Google Maps to put points of view finds on the map. We'll launch it soon enough. Once again, "that look"...

There was an idea to fix the possibility of combining third-party projects dedicated to butterflies and the system / engine Lepidoptera.ru. For example, if a person is engaged in a project that interests them (an example out of thin air is a butterfly detector for a particular area), they will be able to implement it not on a separate resource, but on a website Lepidoptera.ru. At the same time, on the one hand, he will be the full owner of the project (he said "for football", so for football), in case of participation of other users, he will have an advantage over them, the right to veto, etc., and on the other hand, the project will be fully integrated with the gallery and catalog of the site so that it is not necessary it will turn all this back from scratch. In addition, such a project manager will not need any technical knowledge at all: everything that is needed from a software point of view in order for the project to work will be left to me.

Once again, a mega-project for cataloging photos of butterflies from molbiol (those photographers who agreed to it) starts on the site Lepidotera.ru.

Of course, the site is constantly replenished with materials, descriptions are updated, technical glitches are corrected, etc.

In terms of time — approximately until September 15, the database will be completely updated (possibly without the catalog of lepidoptera of the Russian Federation), we will launch Google Maps with points and at least the first hundred or two photos from molbiol. All of this requires a hand-built wagon, so I apologize for being slow.
On projects-I talked to people on this topic, and it was concluded that we still need to implement at least one such project to start with, so that it would be clear from its example what it might look like in general. Therefore: if you are going to implement any online project on lepidoptera or it is already at the stage of partial implementation or is already fully ready, but it can be improved technically-please write here, in the BOS or to my email main#lepidoptera.ru (replace the bug with a dog) - I will do everything in my power to ensure that your the project was implemented in technically comfortable conditions and without any hindrances and unnecessary opinions ("and here I would switch to the third one"). from the outside (including my own:--)
p. S. A project can mean almost anything: a specific catalog, a determinant, a set of related articles on a topic, almost any research, etc.

The goal is a complete illustrated catalog of lepidoptera with no restrictions on geography or taxa, on the basis of which individual projects can work on any butterfly-related topics, with restrictions on territory, taxa, and anything else.

If something is not clearly formulated, ask, as always, ready to answer any questions. Feedback is highly welcome.

PS In another discussion, the following idea came up: since different specialists may disagree with each other on the classification of individual taxa, then the site is based on a certain reinforced concrete (so that the majority of users have something to focus on), but each specialist has the right to make adjustments to the site as part of his project. It will automatically link from one system to another. This means that within projects, the classification will be even more mobile than the general classification for the site.

maybe I didn't quite understand the principle of operation, but it's not very convenient for me to work alphabetically, (prichom for families with Russian names - Russian in front, and Latin in which they are placed-in parentheses behind) and not in phylogenetic order, maybe you can come up with a sequence switch, such as on ZINA, there is an alphabet, there is the system?
