Decticus, your cow-drisnya)). But this is just a monster! It's a pity there wasn't a ruler. True, it has already spawned a long time ago and is now an absolute deathbed, drying in the sun and living uselessly, eating insects and fresh shoots of low grass.

GrigorY66, where did you find it?

08.09.2017 15:48, Decticus

it is better not to keep them together for a long time without live food, only viridissima is probably more dangerous than them.

picture: great_green__bush_cricket_female_2.jpg
Tettigonias are all like that; the same caudates are also very predatory, and cannibalism is often observed when kept together, especially when they are of different ages. Someone starts shedding, and others devour it.
Therefore, in the second year of keeping these grasshoppers, I planted them all separately, and only after molting on the imago did I launch them into a large cage made of mesh.

We have real monsters come across, 8 centimeters each, albi is even better.

08.09.2017 16:21, Decticus

I mean, do you have more caudates than albifrons?

This post was edited by Decticus - 08.09.2017 16: 52

08.09.2017 17:59, NIKITA TIMOSHEV

I meant that albi is better than caudata in strength, but smaller in size, there is with caudata albi.

08.09.2017 18:03, Decticus

Understood.
Well, yes, in general, decticus is more massive and probably stronger. They have a larger head and pronotum than tettigonia.

08.09.2017 20:02, NIKITA TIMOSHEV

As well as jumping paws, decticus can eat a praying mantis.

10.09.2017 6:39, GrigorY66

Decticus, Oooh!, hot southern Deffchogki biting..... It's not about the type of individual.... Kau is sometimes just gigantic. But some Viri can't compete with them in size... Especially in the wings significantly....! Weary's bite is much stronger than Kau's. And the same size of some individuals exceeds the caudate. Moreover, they can significantly bypass it not only in the wings, which is typical of Ingush women, but even in the size of the body of paws and whiskers.. These monsters live in the elm forests along the Sunzha and Terek rivers. Everything depends on the terrain and its own biotopes...

GrigorY66, what a beauty you pose for))

10.09.2017 9:14, NIKITA TIMOSHEV

But the sparrow will still eat such a viri, when it came from the Black Sea,kaudata and ruspolia survived, after which they were released into the field.

And why did you bring kudata and Ruspolia from the Black Sea, if you already have them?(or I misunderstood you again))

If anyone has a photo of viridissim, then you can probably post it here http://molbiol.ru/forums/index.php?showtopic=174913
it's just that in this topic we sort of discuss catching, keeping and breeding pryamoprykh

This morning the kantas have sung something.. Usually they sing like this in the evening))

I also have one chirping sound outside my window.

I found a cluster of cantans in the field today - 4 or 5 females were basking in the sun in the low grass. I saw an even larger female verrucivorus with an unusually long ovipositor ( I'll post a photo later).

Kolez, if the edges are broken up in the morning-this means that 2 males met on the same bush. And they started butting heads to see who would outbid whom.. Here, after such skirmishes, individuals come across with exactly cut whiskers, or black spots (scars) on both sides of the saddle and abdomen.

12.09.2017 0:04, GrigorY66

Decticus, individuals of the same species may have larger features than those living in the Volga region. That's why they attract you. As I have in the 2 photos above, for example. Although we have neither those nor others in the Leningrad region.
But why were they brought from there and released, so that the Tsimlyansky sparrow could eat them? Let them be better then the Black Sea snack))

12.09.2017 0:12, Kolez

Grigory66, no, they broke up everywhere yesterday. I think it's because of the warm weather. They were active all day. And here's what I've seen people like to fight for territory. Therefore, this year I did not settle them with someone (I could not resist and caught a female kant home). Like Viri, he lives separately from everyone))

12.09.2017 0:21, GrigorY66

Kolez, is Viri alive? You make me very happy!) Do not forget, it is probably one for the whole of St. Petersburg)

12.09.2017 0:26, GrigorY66

And while I won't take the cantans home, let them live in the wild - it's warm. I'll take it in early October. Or when exactly it starts to get colder. Their activity of life in nature does not fade away in one day. A week at least. So I'll still have time. Last year, 15oct immediately found 7 females on one slope.

12.09.2017 7:09, Kolez

Yes, live))

It turns out that I turned the cage early that year)

12.09.2017 10:00, Decticus

Wow, so many in one place and lived to see mid-October. Then will they last even longer this year? smile.gif

15.09.2017 17:31, Decticus

It's mid-September, and this verrucivorus hasn't faded yet.

Male)) until November-December, the cycle will run, even I envy a little))

And my purchased locust from the day of purchase is still predimago for some reason. It hasn't shed for almost a month. Of the five, only two survived.

Maybe they don't have enough heat and light?

15.09.2017 21:00, Kolez

Most likely yes, I will think about where to insert the lamp for them. Although there is nothing wrong with the migratory locusts, it has become a powerful one. But pet stores are sluggish.

15.09.2017 22:07, Decticus

It's faded.

The female's right ovipositor is too long, and today I caught albi, a male 6 and a half centimeters, flies well, but slowly frown.gif.

16.09.2017 20:37, Decticus

In the female on the right, the ovipositor is too long,

I noticed that I already wrote about this above.

17.09.2017 18:45, Decticus

I suggest posting photos that are not directly related to the maintenance and breeding of straight-winged birds here http://molbiol.ru/forums/index.php?showtopic=579741

17.09.2017 21:04, NIKITA TIMOSHEV

The ruler would be substituted for the female's ovipositor, but it seems that it is not almost 3 centimeters from her, yesterday's albi is still drying.

18.09.2017 10:49, Decticus

The ovipositor is actually about 3 cm, I measured.

18.09.2017 13:28, NIKITA TIMOSHEV

And the length from the tip of the head to the tip of the ovipositor should be 6.5 cm

23.09.2017 11:08, Decticus

Yes, that female is quite large. Previously, they were more common, but this summer they are all medium and small in size.

24.09.2017 1:08, GrigorY66

Ovipositor as an ovipositor... Maybe just a little straight.
The usual medium-winged female is a brunette and has a belly filled with eggs. A modest resident of the meadows of the Leningrad region. We have plenty of them.

24.09.2017 1:23, GrigorY66

Decticus, on a sunny slope, sparsely grassed with matimachea, fenced with trees and not drained. They find such places themselves in the fall and huddle there as death throes, stupidly basking in the sun when it appears. These are the last strongholds of their existence. So from year to year in certain places of relief.
This photo of last year 15oct is above, 3 pieces are baked on it.
This year is unknown, the weather change in our climate is unpredictable

27.09.2017 21:29, Decticus

I went out into the field today and didn't see a single grasshopper. The only sound was a distant cantan in a tree.
However, the next day I passed through the field and heard verrucivorus, probably 5 pieces.

Who has how many grasshoppers still alive? Here I have for the whole of September died 2 females-verrucivorus and cantans, just recently. There are now 3 cantans and 3 verrucivorus, caught in early-mid September.
