Even in the Leningrad region, butterflies finally appeared. Of course, at such temperatures. Among the larger ones, a tau and a Cerura vinula male were observed. By day cardamines, argiolus, levana, napi, etc

Yesterday I was passing through a couple of swamps on horseback.
Raspberries in large numbers, single whiteflies. Single (very fresh) jutta males
Nothing supernatural.

And, to catch up, I'll go back a little, to the May departure
Dosang remained a long-standing dream, beckoning with its desert fauna. And now, finally, it was possible to implement it.
The main purpose of the trip was to collect butterflies, of which only a few species flew there. The trip took place from 29.04 to 1.05, I lived in a tent (I will immediately note that it was not possible to stop on the bank of Akhtuba, because most of the places suitable for this were occupied by fishermen.

The butterfly season began at 7: 40-8: 00 am, when the first whiteflies appeared, then the number of individuals increased, and by 10 o'clock all the variety of species could be observed. Especially numerous was the Euchloe ausonia, which flew almost everywhere. From Lapas to Dosang, you can observe a wide variety of microlandscapes. Mostly dry steppe. Juicy trees grow on the bank of the Akhtuba River, and a forest tulip grows at the bottom. And on the site of the main cattle run from Dosang, a small area with sand dunes was formed.

Separately, I note that the meeting of forumchan in the field was a discovery for me. I would like to thank Yegor from Stavropol, who managed to stay in the camp for the night. It was nice to see Lov for the first time. Unfortunately, on the last day I didn't have time to visit my colleagues from Moscow and St. Petersburg.
I would like to express my gratitude to my supervisor for his help in organizing the departure!
PS: if someone will help with the definition of aphodia and kaloedov-I will be extremely grateful!

I went to the oak forests near Kazan for Polyploca ridens (F.). As a result, I caught 6 pcs. The first fireflies appeared-Zophodia grossulariella, lichens-Eilema sororcula, Sickle-flies-Falcaria lacertinaria. Among the crested birds, Drymonia ruficornis, Notodonta ziczac, Notodonta tritophus, Odontosia carmelita, Furcula bifida, Cerura vinula, and Peridea anceps flew. Clostera anachoreta, Clostera curtula.

I dropped by my favorite swamp again. I didn't find Yuta, probably because of the thunderstorm, she was all poking around somewhere. But there were different-caliber pyadenichki, thick-headed malvovye. I missed some bright yellow lichen. Wild rosemary bloomed! Caught a new one for me pyadenichku.

Plagodis pulveraria. Of the yellow lichens in the Northwest, only sororcula is now fairly common.

Yes, it is very similar to Eilema sororcula. Brisk, however, infection!!! It's strange, for some reason I didn't come across P. pulveraria before.

17.05.2018 23:20, Andrei Dolgikh

Something strange is happening to nature - the bird cherry tree did not have time to bloom, without the traditional cold snap, as the lilac and mountain ash bloomed. After last night's thunderstorm, Calliteara pudibunda made a massive exit - its males are sitting wherever there are light sources. In two districts of the Novgorod region - exactly. Small gathering under the gas station light:

Dear colleagues, good afternoon!

The shield bug Halyomorpha halys is actively spreading around Sochi, in Abkhazia, Georgia. No one has the opportunity to collect several individuals, put them in alcohol/vodka and send them to St. Petersburg? Not necessarily from Russia. Ukraine, Kazakhstan and other countries are also interesting.
You can also use dry material, although it is worse.

I am ready to pay for the shipment.

Thank you in advance!

The age of the females begins, but the males are still fresh. At half past ten in the morning, they were still quite sluggish and even allowed themselves to be photographed on the phone.

May 20, the outskirts of Oryol.
In the morning it was overcast and cool, but then a sunny window appeared among the clouds.
A lot of sappho mottled birds flutter all over the road in the forest belt. Spring ones are bigger than summer ones. Here a yellow caragana is planted in the undergrowth, as the female sappho observed laying eggs on it.
There are a lot of animals in a small settled ravine, myrmidon and chyale yolks have flown out.

According to my estimates, they should fly near Novgorod this week.

In the first days of June, according to my observations, just mixed up all three species are already flying out en masse. I wonder in what order exactly.
Waiting for news!:)

All the time I was worried about this ute-why does it fly in one swamp, and on mine - 15 km from the first one-I don't find it?! Today I decided to finish this question. Again, where I used to fly, it's empty. I walked about 300 m to an almost treeless swamp - and here it is! If I were a hunter or a fisherman, I would say that I fly in flocks. There was practically no sun - light but partly cloudy weather (rain began to fall in the evening), at the same time in the field of view - 2-3 individuals flying over hummocks with flowering rosemary confused.gif. I ran after her, but...... it's a bit difficult to jump on the bumps. It turns out that there is an easier way - it practically does not sit on live pines, but on a thick, unselfish dry weed..... there is some competition for it! You remove one from the tree and while you put it in the bag , the next one is already claiming its place on the tree. Total according to the results of the hike-in the photo the most popular (with the exception of raspberries) types for today:

And what Oeneis jutta you keep only swamps or can be near the swamp for example on pine manes?? Butterflies only sit on dried-up pines? There is also a photo of its biotope. Yes, and when do you fly Boloria aquilonaris ?? Is it necessary for her to have cranberries in the swamp?

I'll tell you about the Leningrad region. Jutta really sticks to swamps and low-lying (not necessarily dry!)forests. pine trees, but it also sits on high-voltage poles, if they are present in the swamp. Only once, when it was in the mass (I do not remember the year) - it flew near the swamp, but did not fly far away. B. aquilonaris, flying here from about mid-June or a little later, is found not only in swamps, but also in some wet forest clearings, where peat bogs (and even more so cranberries) and there is no close, but violets grow. But these populations (unlike swamp populations) are small in number.

Two years ago, I caught it on the manes, but it was very few in number. So now I was looking for it there, but.... But in the almost open swamp, it turned out to be very, very numerous. I did not notice any plantings on live pines, and here dried ones, and even without bark, were very popular with her. Females preferred to fly over hummocks with flowering rosemary. Biotope, I didn't remove it this time, but if necessary, I'll remove it on my next visit.
About Boloria aquilonaris-it's been flying since mid-June. I can't say anything about cranberries, since cranberries and cloudberries in our swamps are background plants, as are wild rosemary and blueberries.

According to my observations, it sits on live pines. In the two swamps I visited, I stuck to the edges of stunted pine forests in the swamp. On the ground (moss) also sat down, but less often.
See photos of biotopes in my two previous reports (completely standard swamps).
I won't tell you about aquilonaris, I haven't seen swamps without cranberries yet.

I did not sit down and visited my favorite swamp for lunch. A lot of Utah - almost all over the swamp fly. Mass of efrosina. The first male paleno appeared. They're running around like crazy. +28C in the shade. Well, the crowds of fat - headed butterflies. There is no end of horseflies. Because of them, moose openly walk along the roadsides.
