- Does it give one generation?

14.04.2009 20:11, chebur

We have one generation in the Moscow region, but with an smile.gifestivation , because in July it only flies for a few days and at the end of March next year it takes off completely fresh.

"I see. "We only have this thing flying on the Laccolith peaks, and the weather there is different from the plains, to put it mildly. - So we probably also have one generation...
"And what is the food plant of its caterpillars?" ( climb-look in scrap smile.gif)

I went to the Tuzov atlas. It lists the genera Ulmus, Betula and Populus, in other words elms, birches and poplars. But the butterfly, as far as I know, is quite rare even in the Moscow Region (listed in the Red Book) and is not found everywhere where there are forage plants.
So if you decide to try to find caterpillars, it will be very problematic.
For example, I consider my discovery of a pupa (by the way, on a blade of grass under a birch tree) an exceptional piece of luck.

I regularly meet them in Moscow, in the spring, in the east and south-west.

Finally, in Moscow, more or less flew. Yesterday from 21 to 0.30 caught on DRL-250 from the balcony of the 8th floor. Many Orthosia incerta, 1 Eupsilia transversa.
Today, a male Biston strataria has just emerged from its pupa on a tree trunk near the biofactory.

Last week's report.
At the beginning of the week, daytime temperatures reached plus 15-17 degrees, but by morning it is freezing, although in the evening it is about plus 5. The nights from 14 to 17.04.09 brought several more new species for this year-scoops: Orthosia gothica, Lithophane socia and moth: Apocheima hispidaria, Biston strataria, and a couple of micros.
Another weekend turned out to be cold, during the day up to plus 6, at night up to a small minus, sometimes rain and snow. On Friday evening, I went to the dacha, by 22.00 Mikhail drove up, with whom we went to catch the generator for the plots. There was a desire to catch fluffy cocoonworms and endromis. In reality, everything was more modest: Conistra vascinii, Eupsilia transversa, Brachionycha nubeculosa, Orthosia gothica and Achlya flavicornis. Plus again some thin-winged moth, hovering five meters from the lamp at a height of 5 meters, attempts to catch which did not lead to anything. The moth Lycia hirtaria and the scooper Lithophane furcifera have already arrived at the site.
Yes, I put the photos of Archiearis parthenias in the catch-up to the previous report.

Moscow. Report for the week of April 13-19.
Since only the first three nights were warm enough, all my catch was collected between Monday and Thursday.
The only source of collection of mottled lepidoptera available to me in Moscow is the clamps under the canopies of entrances.
The results are as follows:
13.04.09 - Agonopterix heracliana L.
15.04.09-Orthosia incerta Hufn, Phigalia pilosaria D&S
16.04.09-Orthosia gothica L, Agriopis marginaria F
At least this can already be called the opening of the season.

MO, Mytischinsky district, Losiny Ostrov. April 25, 2009
Guided tour in the company and not entomological. The weather is cloudy (starting from 9 am). Under the bark of a dead pine tree live ragias; there are abundant traces of beaver work all over the floodplain; see two pictures (taken at the address: Mytishchi, Vodoprovodnaya Alley Street) – a half-eaten worker next to his own pogryzami. Nervous people are asked not to watch.

On it, we have two species similar to oak, only a specialist in barbels can distinguish them

Yes no according to my observations in the Ministry of Defense, eats birch stumps or thick fallen trunks of old birches, stumps are more often hit

mikee and vicgrr, night of May 25-26, Moscow region, border of Orekhovo-Zuyevsky and Shatursky districts, Sergey's dacha-sdi. The DRL-250 lamp is not split. Immediately after full darkness (21-45 approximately) for 15-20 minutes - years of fluffy cocoonworms Eriogaster lanestris. If, of course, I'm not mistaken in the definition, because I caught it for the first time. 7 pieces were caught, 2 more arrived with a significant interval of about an hour. Starting from the 23rd year of different scoops and moths. I'm not a specialist, I can't describe the species composition, but there are up to 15 species. There are up to 30 instances on the screen at the same time, not counting the moving grass in the surrounding area. At 23-30, the first male E. vesicolora arrived, and two more arrived within 30-40 minutes after the first one. These butterflies flew at a height of no more than half a meter, directly to the screen and then fell to the ground. The flight is very weak, it looks like they literally just hatched and went on their first flight. One fringed floater flew in from the rest, and some small ground beetle crawled in.
At 12: 30, we finished fishing, because we had to go home to Moscow. Photos from vicgrr, I hope, will be posted.

On Friday-Saturday evening, I also turned on the lamp, Moscow region, Stupinsky district, Marinka, on Friday +8, on Saturday +11.
Years, oddly enough, started mostly at half past ten - at eleven, although it was dark before that, but almost no one was flying.
The first night flew extremely poorly, only 5 copies. caught, a mass of microns of the same type.
Saturday is a little better, a list of species that have arrived in a couple of days:

Orthosia
cruda
gothica
populeti
incerta
Brachionycha nubeculosa (males and one female)
Conistra
rubiginea
vaccinii
Eupsilia transversa

Alsophila aescularia (3 specimens)
Apocheima pilosaria
Trichopteryx carpinata

I think if I were fishing today, I would catch more species, and they promise a cold snap again for the May holidays...

April 26, 2009 Moscow region, Odintsovo district, route along the edges and through the forest area from the village. Skorotovo to the village. Dunino. The fauna is banal; in addition to what is shown in the pictures, the following are noted: males of parthenias (numerous) and notha (few), polychloros (rare), 1 specimen. xanthomelas (?), io (common), 1 male napi specimen, etc. Wedge of cranes on a flight to the north-north-west over the village. Skorotovo (about a dozen individuals).

Some of those who should have been there at this time are not marked: Endromis, cardamines, vau-album, argiolus, napi females.

In the image IMG_2518a.JPG – the same copy as in the pictures IMG_2511a.JPG and IMG_2513a.JPG, only the rear view (this refers to the version of Lvovsky and Morgun that it is the females that overwinter).

It is a pity that eggs were not collected from the female eriogaster, it is extremely rare for females to fly to the light (1: 99) and it is very lucky to catch her.

Eh! and we wanted to try our luck with silkworms in the vicinity of the PTZ!
We are entoterra, IvshinN, morozzz and another famous unknown entomologist. We conducted combat reconnaissance in the vicinity of the village of Zibrovo.
The results are poor, but the main thing is communication in the fresh air and a charge of positive emotions!
They caught bumblebees and buzzed on the flowering willows. I personally captured a couple of Archiearis parthenias moths.
On the photo:
1. IvshinN, entoterra, morozzz
2. Another" unknown " entomologist, entotera, IvshinN
3. A selection of sticks for the net. For the nets were 2 for four
4. The motherland still gives us a generous supply of birch sap
5. Suddenly, about fifty meters away from us, a fox appeared and allowed itself to be photographed.
In general. so. The main thing is that it was fun.

Uh-uh, dear Anton. Here's the thing - first of all, none of us wrote about the capture of the female(ok) Eriogaster with Viktor. Did you determine its (their) presence in the catch from the photo? On what grounds, and then the owner of the station-Sergey-sdi-asked him to catch a femalesmile.gif, and secondly, no one asked us to milk these eggs from females. And we don't have the skill in this business smile.gifTo do it just like that, personally, I don't need and am not interested. shuffle.gif
Addendum to the report. The second night, from Sunday to Monday, began with a sharp cold snap just after sunset due to clear skies. Degrees up to 5-7, still good, then not really fell. Years passed completely according to the scenario of the previous night, if you look at the time of the beginning of summer and its course. The only difference was the use of the already pricked DRL-250 and the appearance of a noticeable number of some reddish-brown moth. There were only 2 cocoonworms and 4 endromis, all males, but we didn't get any females. We finished at one o'clock in the morning, thoroughly chilled.
Yes, I almost forgot, the endromises, despite the cold night, flew much more lively and landed on the screen, and did not fall in front of it, than the night before. Apparently, we really got to the very beginning of summer.

Brief report: endromises fly in full swing in the myrmidon nursery today, even worse at the dacha on the lamp, fluffy ones still fly to the lamp, but in very limited numbers; moth species 10-12, scoop species 15-20, raspberries and buckthorn pigeons flew in the afternoon; May beetles also flew. I'll try to post a mega-report with photos tomorrow.

By Friday, warming began, 24 – 14, 25 – 17, 26 – 20 degrees. The warmest night is from 25 to 26, about 10 degrees. At my father's dacha, it is clear that there is nothing rare at all, there are 11 dacha cooperatives in the district, each with 300 plots… But in principle, the species composition is almost complete from the usual for this time:

On Sunday, I returned from 83 km. On Monday night, I caught up to one o'clock in the morning, calling back with Mikhail. A negroid form of Ectropis crepuscularia (Denis & Schiffermuller, 1775) appeared from a new one for this year. Here is a list of everything that flew these days:

/ Moscow region, O.-Zuevsky district, Neftyanik settlement, 29.04.09-02.05.09/

Having learned that a cold snap was coming, I rushed to the dacha on the evening of 29 to have time to capture endromis and fluffy cocoonworms. In Likino-Dulevo we met with Vladimir Vasilenko and managed to start night fishing. Years were so-so, at least worse than last year: 5 fluffy, 7 endromis, well, a lot of scoops and moths. The next day came the cold and terrible wind, you could forget about fishing. On May 1, in the afternoon, bluebirds and Celastrina argiolus (Linnaeus, 1758) flew. Night fishing was killed by electrical problems. At 21.35, the first endromis arrived, and after 10 minutes, the electricity was cut off – the number of heaters in suburban areas went off scale and automatic machines were cut down. At 23.00, the light was turned on, it was already 3 degrees above zero, after an hour and a half they cut it down again… On the morning of the 2nd, I went home with a stop at the myrmidon nursery. Myrmidons, of course, have not yet taken off, spring and raspberry trees flew, plus in the forest 50 meters from the 2nd concrete and a poster about forest seed farming-endromis, with an interval of 1 in 5 minutes. When I saw the first one, I hoped it might be tau?, but no, when I caught it, I realized that it was silkwings. During the 15 minutes that I stood in the clearing, after catching the first one, I saw 4 pieces, I didn't run and catch them, I was already tired. Here is a list of everything that was flown and caught:
- scoops:
Scoliopteryx libatrix (Linnaeus, 1758)
Panolis flammea (Denis & Schiffermuller, 1775)

Back on April 27, some kind of barbel arrived...

Not the barbel, but Calopus serraticornis Linnaeus, 1758 of the Oedemeridae.

But how can you not see through it?.. To move somewhere for a hundred kilometers in three hours, then the same amount on your knees to crawl through these chalk mountains... finding a single caterpillar... smile.gifit's something you'll remember for the rest of your life...

I (and everyone else, I think) have similar memories associated with most interesting finds, the joy of catching even one good-looking specimen compensates for all the hardships and costs smile.gif

The soil is peat bog, then what is on, the photo is a bulk road. I saw additional eyes on the peacock's eye already in the photo, I didn't take the grandmother.
