Imago Habitus and Differences from alike species

  • Wingspan 70-95 mm. This species has been treated as P. hipponous Felder, 1862 in the past, a species occurred in the Philippines. Sexes are similar. UP black similar to male P. polytes in having white discal band of elongate white spots on HW, but differs in having black dusting over the white spots which heavier in spaces 1b, 2 and 3, FW without a series of marginal white spots along the marginal margin. UnH male of subsp. pitmani has an orange crescent spot at tornus whereas that of siamensis is rather short and straight, the discal white spots generally longer in spaces 1b-3 in the former than in the latter.
