Positive temperature anomaly

Hierophis, 14.11.2010 20:52

This November, to a greater extent in the territory of Ukraine and the ETR, and to an even greater extent in the south of Ukraine, late-spring temperatures have been maintained for at least two weeks without a day. In the south of Mykolaiv, Kherson region Tmax. since the beginning of November, it has fluctuated within +17C +25C, morning temperatures do not fall below 10C, and for three consecutive days, on November 9, 10 and 11, the average daily temperatures were around +16 +19C, which is typical for the beginning of June.
According to the latest data from climate models, this anomaly in the south of Ukraine will last until Thursday next week, but new heat flows are not excluded. The nature of the phenomenon consists in a powerful meridian removal of North African heat by a series of Atlantic cyclones with the beginning of active western transfer from the end of October.

Napimer for Kherson Region Tan at the moment is approx. +8C, Tanmax +13.2 S

Interseno, who observes what anomalies in the activity of insects and other animals? In the south of the Mykolaiv region, minor anomalies are observed so far, such as the preservation of a certain number of erectoptera, some lepidoptera, mainly jaundice. Ground insects and spiders are regularly active.
However, today in the steppe I heard the first "alarm signals" smile.gif- field crickets began to sing. During the search for soil for the hatching of straight-winged birds, I did not find anything. Plants are also in no hurry to wake up, but the peculiarity of the situation is that in October there were already frosts, and the current warmth can be regarded as a wake-up call.
Since yesterday, I've also noticed spring bird songs and frog concerts in the ponds.

Today I saw the flower of chistyak Ficaria verna (see the photo in the reports) - but this is a spring ephemeroid! Buttercups also bloomed, but all this is isolated. On insects-nothing absolutely supernatural (late summer dates in the Kharkiv region are blocked for V. atalanta, P. c-album, S. striolatum, but this is normal: the weather allowed; in general, these species are always active in the fall "to the very stop").

PS: I think, however, that for most of the animals, the photoperiod will "explain" what time of year it really is. smile.gif

Today, in the vicinity of Khmelnitsky, I saw rhamni, io, crocea and fresh rapae, the first two are clearly nothing ordinary-they warmed up - they got out, crocea is interesting even in the season, they don't fly in every year, and here in November ... well, rapae puzzled, this is what generation it turns out-4th, 5the ? )

crocea is even interesting in our season, they don't fly in every year, but here in November... well, rapae puzzled us, what kind of generation does it turn out to be - 4th, 5th ? )

The turnip, crocea, and some other species do not have generations as such. These species breed continuously, i.e. during the season they occur simultaneously in all four phases of development and adults fly without interruptions. Thus, by the end of the season, the crocea that flew into your region managed to breed. And in the Crimea, for example, they breed until they stop, in early December I met eggs, caterpillars, and imagos.
Considering that in Crimea, crocea is released in the middle (beginning?)of the year. If the development cycle lasts about 30 days, then the species can go through about nine full development cycles per season.

I fully agree with crocea, and I naturally understand that these are descendants of migrants, but it's still a bit late for us, especially since there was already a rather cold period, with temperatures near zero, and even frosts, and they still fly. As for the rapae generations, we have a break between the first and second (or second and third smile.gif) can be traced quite clearly, in late May or early July they are not present at all, and then really without breaks, but the fact of fresh butterflies in November is personally interesting to me.

Crocea is quite cold-resistant. We don't get too hot in November and December either. smile.gif And then the sun warmed up a little-you see-they fly. eek.gif

In North America, my experience was as follows: in mid-November, frosts hit up to -10 at night, snow fell, a couple of days later there was a thaw again, the snow melted, the temperature rose to +10 - +12 - and they (the native species C. philodice and C. eurytheme) were still flying anyway... smile.gif Maybe it was this layer of snow that allowed them to survive the bitter cold.

Wow, it turned smile.gifout (spamfilter, damn it)

Yes, I still saw a blooming bruise, buttercups are blooming, dandelions, surepka, some other plants, but all this that I saw-these are isolated cases and in principle not unusual. But chistyak is already interseno, I was looking through the ravines for vegetation of gymnosperm, chistyak, primrose, but I didn't notice anything. As for the photoperiod-this is a complex philosophical question - how will the animal understand that there is a negative dynamics of insolation now, if it does not see smile.gifit, because many pupae lie in the ground, plant seeds, resting underground parts, all this can germinate, and when it understands that something is wrong, it will be too late.
Well, what I saw today, since I tracked down a singing cricket-that's something, ktstai he was the only one so far. It's like in the song about the bonfire, when "the crank did everything wrong" and his song is now spreading across the steppe.
Plants can be held back by drought, we have a soil drought, the soil is dry up to 15 cm, although there are fogs in the morning. And there are still a minimum of four days of anomalies ahead, so there may be more singing crickets smile.gif

that is, imagos are not fastidious to the cold, and preimaginals are the opposite? or why then in our conditions crocea can not overwinter?

I did not mean frosts, but cold (small frosts?), i.e. caterpillars continue to feed, pupate, and do not leave for the winter. Either not everyone leaves. When warming, fresh imagos can come out.
I don't know about wintering grounds. We have winter drops to -10 ... 13 are quite common, -20 also occasionally happens. In the mountains and below. They probably spend the winter here only in some localities with a warm microclimate, because there are not many rabbits in the spring.

I haven't seen anything about spring flowers yet. Last year, by the way, November (in Crimea) was about as warm. I even went to the beach to sunbathe. wink.gif

15.11.2010 20:04, Hierophis

Last year in the south of Ukraine, too, in November there was a small positive anomaly, but more than modest, in Kherson the Tan was only +3C, but in the Crimea the anomaly was even less pronounced, here in Simferopol http://pogoda.ru.net/monitor.php?id=33946&month=11&year=2009 : Tan +2C-this is considered a variant of the new norm. This year, by the way, the anomaly in the southern Crimea is somewhat less than in the rest of Ukraine, as the norms are already high there. in addition, at the beginning of November there were severe frosts, strong enough for us to freeze out almost all the remains of insects.

Tonight I was returning from work and heard trills from the poplars, probably some grasshoppers still survived, and cheered up smile.gif
According to the latest updates, T will be above +10C in the south of Ukraine until November 25, but then the option is not excluded, which in the picture smile.gifis of course the "tail" of the model forecast, and everything will probably change several more times, but in principle something like this is possible at the beginning of December smile.gif

In Yaroslavl, the heat lasted until November 16 inclusive. Despite the screams of journalists about abnormal natural phenomena outside the city, everything was as usual. I went to the forest on November 12 - only spiders were active... The rest were sitting in the winter quarters. In the city, with its artificial lighting (and the shift in the length of the light day), lawns were green, some of them blooming autumn plants - alyssum, bluebells, odorless chamomile. The jackdaws had a bath day. The beetles came out, too. On the light walls for a couple of days, I collected a wrinkle beetle (Helophorus), a knotweed (Ptinus) and a leaf block from the genus Phyllotreta, and then I found a fringed swimmer - apparently flying and shied against a wall or roof (and repelled the elytra).

So far, I haven't got out to the steppe for new observations, but I heard the singing of some grasshopper on a poplar tree when I returned from work in the evening, the temperature was about +17C.
In terms of prospects, of course, abnormal cold weather such as those that no longer appear in the picture, but the cold snap from November 25 remains, in the morning the T2m-10C isotherm in the north of Ukraine, the 0C isotherm in the southern Crimea.

We have the most interesting of the blooming ephemeroids at the end of October was the blackening lumbago (dream-grass), crocea flew until the first days of November, I occasionally met pyrgus and carcharodus. There is an extended period of time in nocturnal raznoustyh, common for autumn.

20.11.2010 14:34, Kharkovbut

The male crocea was recorded on November 17 - an absolute late record for a daytime butterfly in the Kharkiv region. smile.gif Since then, the weather has remained relatively warm (+8 - +10), but overcast and wet. So it looks like this is already the end.

If the sun warms up again, he might come out later. I mean Crocea. The main thing here is to be in the right place at the right time wink.gif

Simferopol, TNU Park, November 16: bettik, bellargus, fleas, crocea, turnip, turnip, burdock.

Well, November is coming to an end, and these days the "summer"has already ended in the south of Ukraine. However, the day before yesterday I saw blooming goatbeards, an abundance of blooming and already fruiting dandelions, and bees on the flowers, and not only honeybees!

However, unfortunately, an icy inferno is coming to the center of the ETR, approximately as in the forecast of the State Fiscal Service of November 15. So the trends were seen correctly, but so far it seems that it is expected that on December 1, isotherm-20C will not enter the territory of Ukraine, but will stop almost nearby. At the same time, for Europe, the option is currently more severe - the isotherm (in rings)- 10C should cover the entire zap. Europe, so to speak, up to the very Netherlands.

And after December 1, at least two or three days of summer are expected in the south of Ukraine(up to 18C near the World Cup coast). Summer is also expected on November 29, but with thunderstorms and rain. So there will probably be more opportunities to wander around smile.gif

Not quite on the topic, of course, since it's already December, but nevertheless! Residents of the south of Ukraine who love warm spring days in December - there is good news smile.gif
All the power of the Atlantic and the warmth of Africa will be thrown against the freezing winter from December 20, and as a result, it is possible to establish temperature regimes up to Tmax. +15C in the south and up to +20C in the Crimea until January 1, and possibly further. Positive anomalies can have two-digit values. If you are lucky, the +10C isotherm can reach the Donetsk-Kryvyi Rih line with no snow and already a good warm-up.

For sure, tarantula burrows will open, various animals will infest, maybe something will bloom. Interseno is that it is possible that many days will be clear and quiet. So flying is also possible at night.

There is good news for fans of warm weather: from January 9, a fairly powerful and extensive positive anomaly is expected on the territory of Ukraine. Unfortunately, the temperature values will be more modest than during the anomaly from December 20, when in the south of Ukraine(not counting the Crimea, where it was up to +24C) the temperature reached +17C, and it was possible to observe good insect activity, the temperature probably only in the Crimea will reach +10C, in the extreme south of Ukraine - up to 10C heat. The duration of the anomaly is expected until the 20th of January, possibly even further.

Hurray! smile.gif

ARE THE ANOMALIES continuing?

08.04.2011 20:41, Hierophis

Dooooooo! Only so far-negative wink.gif

After aggressive positive anomalies in July, August and November(exceeding up to +7C), and in some places - in December(in the south of Ukraine), the ETR and Ukraine observed close to the norms of the months of January and March, and cold February with a Tan of -2-4C.
This led to a delay in the phenological spring in our country for 2 weeks and in some parameters even more. The current anomaly of April in the south of Ukraine is about -0.5 C, a positive anomaly is planned for precipitation in April.

Forgot to add - as a result of the influx to Ukraine in poned. and tue. winter will come at nightsmile.gif, at an altitude of up to-10C, near the ground 0-5C, especially for the south of Ukraine is relevant. It's good that apricots don't bloom yet smile.gif

due to the warm" summer " of 2010, a sharp increase in the number of Papilio machaon was noticed this year, and the warmth of this summer also affected their color, in Voronezh they fly almost orange, which is typical for inhabitants of the southern regions.

In hot summers, light butterflies are usually darker. They produce melanin in their scales under the influence of UV rays.

On Sunday, that is, October 2, the first invasion of cold in the south of Ukraine in this autumn season will most likely occur(up to-3C in the upper layers), on Sunday all this beauty will probably be accompanied by wind, rain, and in the northern regions it is possible even snow =0, on Monday morning T in the Crimea may be ok +5C, in the south of Ukraine up to 0C, and if it is clear and quiet at night, then there may be strong frosts, that is, probably all straight-winged birds and many others will freeze.

All this will not be long, but Skoda will do. Expected T max in the south-

03.10.2011 16:57, Hierophis

What did you have this morning?" We have only reached +3C, it seems that in Kiev, too, somewhere it was like this, we did not have frosts on the soil, but you did?

If there was no frost, then many people will still be alive, especially locusts, grasshoppers freeze first, but locusts can still be for a long time!

03.10.2011 17:09, DanMar

In the morning +5 S seems to be

04.10.2011 22:25, DanMar

Well, I do not agree that all grasshoppers freeze in the first place, for example, I found ash bushes in November under a downpour!!! They seem to be frost-resistant, survive until late autumn, but also hatch from eggs, respectively, in late spring!

04.10.2011 23:02, Hierophis

DanMar, maybe bush lovers don't die so quickly, but decticus and the like - for sure.
So what did you have as livestock after the cold snap, do you have any information from the fields? I haven't gone anywhere yet, so I'll go tomorrow. It just seems like two more weeks of summer are waiting for us, and it will be a shame, of course, if a lot of people froze because of this short cold snap.

10.10.2011 22:04, Hierophis

Another announcement of the upcoming cold snap - after the current cold snap, which was relatively not very intense and the next three-day warming from Tuesday to Thursday of this week, which will manifest mainly in the east, where temperatures can be up to +23C, from Friday, October 14, a very strong cold snap will begin, at the peak of which GFS expects frosts up to-5C in almost the entire territory of Ukraine, frosts will begin at night on Sunday and the maximum cooling may be on Tuesday, October 18. After that, a relatively strong warming will begin, up to +20C in the southern regions.
This is a preliminary review of the SFS forecasts...

And after the cold snap that we had, almost all the grasshoppers, decticuses, tettigonias disappeared, but there were almost as many locusts left.

13.10.2011 20:48, DanMar

Well, the Tettigonias are no longer heard, the decticuses, oddly enough, almost all departed at the end of August frown.gif. Do you see gampsokleis trees in autumn? Almost no one mentions them... They seem to be "autumn" species in the Far East and China.

13.10.2011 21:07, Hierophis

By the way, we still have individual tettigonias singing! Rather, they sang recently, when it was up to +23C, at the beginning of the week. But everything is lazy, after the cold weather, the chorus of friendly people that was heard in the evenings from the window is no longer there frown.gif
In general, you have early decticuses disappear, I remember exactly that when I went to the end of September, some of them were still cicalas.
If I go to the steppe next weekend, when it warms up to +20C, I will tell you if there are gampsokleis, but it seems to me that they are unlikely to be there, they will not be able to bear this cold snap, because we can have less than 0C.

13.10.2011 22:18, Коллекционер

did you see the admiral in the yard yesterday, is it normal for him to be so late?

14.10.2011 23:43, DanMar

Like yes, in my opinion, they even spend the winter. I wonder why decticuses leave early, for example, near Leningrad they are in September. Albifrons at me too for some reason in September depart =(.

14.11.2011 2:53, bryodema

In our country, Tettigonia cantans was recorded in warm autumn until the last decade of September (the latest male was caught by me in the second decade of October several years ago). Tettigonia caudata is rare by the third decade of August and early September. The latest decticus in the second decade of September was. Pholidoptera griseoptera some individuals are also found in October, the males are easily recognizable by their "song". Many locusts (mass species) are found before the first frost on the soil. Species of the late-summer group-Dociostaurus brevicollis, Stenophyma grossum. The earliest species of the genus Tetrix: imago and larvae were found by me at the earliest on April 15 (2008) .

14.11.2011 3:00, bryodema

Gampsocleis ussuriensis (caught quite often), Decticus nigrescens, Tettigonia viridissima were definitely caught by me in late August and early September in the south of the Far East.
