..but I have seen polyxene much sever, and not only polyxene, but also zorek, latonii, swallowtails, a bunch of all sorts of whiteflies, and so on. So he definitely had polyxenes wink.gif
And it got colder as always - because, as usual, the invasion of cold from Russia, in a couple of days the Azores anticyclone will come from the west full of heat, and summer will come, +30, runners, copperheads, wasps will fly out ))))

I have no doubt that there is enough polyxene throughout Ukraine, but unfortunately, I am not lucky yet, as you are. frown.gif And the fact that soon the heat will come-it's good! jump.gif On the weekend, the heat is already transmitted!

20.04.2015 20:47, Hierophis

Well, the evening is not the best time, polyxenes are very sensitive to temperature, but the fact that they have already come out is 100%, I have already seen dozens of them in various places, and even here on the 17th in Marina Grove, and this is generally the north of the Mykolaiv region. And it was full of them, but of course in the afternoon when +25 was)

You live practically in the forest!! This is cool and without polyxenesmile.gif, But polyxenes are not found in the forest and do not really like overgrown areas, they live where it is usually open, well, where there is kirkazon, and on virgin land - in steppe gullies, along the banks of rivers, you can have on the border of a natural forest..

20.04.2015 20:57, Василий Л.

Yes, I was lucky with my place of residence! smile.gif Mixed forest, and in the forest there are ponds and lakes... I go there every weekend to catch fish. But Polixenes had never met anyone there. Houses abut the forest itself, so this butterfly, unfortunately, has nowhere to settle on the border of the village and the forest. But you're right - the forest is full of other insects!

So you do not need to climb on the border of the village and the forest, there is only that cows can meet and chickens, you need to move away a little, you have a place there)

20.04.2015 21:13, Василий Л.

But you're right - the forest is full of other insects!

Yes, I'm sorry. I didn't finish writing a few words. shuffle.gif In fact, I sometimes go as far as three kilometers deep into the forest.

20.04.2015 21:41, Hierophis

Yes, I'm sorry. I didn't finish writing a few words. shuffle.gif In fact, I sometimes go as far as three kilometers deep into the forest.

Well that's cool) But in the specific case of polyxenes, in theory, it is certainly better to find the place where the borders of the forest and something like the steppe are located, but it is really difficult for you there, there are not three but all 10 km you need to go.. Need a bike)

21.04.2015 12:13, Liparus

Who needs polyxenes?

21.04.2015 12:19, Василий Л.

There is a bike, but there is not even 10 km, but about thirty kilometers to get there. We probably have the largest natural forest area in the region. smile.gif So I was very lucky! jump.gif And I'll find polyxene in some other biotope.

21.04.2015 12:20, Василий Л.

Well, I wouldn't mind! smile.gif

I'll go to Mary's Grove to pick up polyxenes as soon as it's a sunny and quiet day. If there are as many of them as they say here,I can take them on you. Counter-suggestion: there are mnemosines in the Cherkasy region, and gasoline is very expensive... I offer an exchange.
17.04. I caught a dawn, there were quite a lot of males and only one female, some nymphalids flew by 1-2 times, and so far that's all!...

As soon as possible, I will try to catch as many mnemosyne as possible (as far as I know, their life begins in May). But if I can't provide anything for exchange, then if you agree to sell several (2-3) copies of polyxene, how much (in UAH) will the piece cost?
Dear moderators and forum participants, I'm sorry that our dialogue is off topic. smile.gif

The range for exchange is large. In our south, there are no hives, mourning birds, or iridescent birds, and peacock eyes and other forest dwellers are extremely rare.

Oh! Then no problem! We have plenty of hives and peacock eyes, especially in May and June! I also occasionally meet Perelivnits, but they keep in the crowns of trees, so it's difficult to catch them, I've hardly seen mourning birds.

Come on, hives, mourners, admirals, peacock eyes, polychromatic all sorts of things we have and there are enough of them.. Here perelivnitsy yes, but even then, in Herosna for sure there is.
And poliksen sorry for the needle frown.gifI hope they are lucky ))))

Vasily, these are females in their crowns and rarely go down to the ground, and males are often found on roads, near puddles (on mud). Also on bowel movements, etc.: they like smile.gifthis you should also have it.

21.04.2015 23:23, Maksim M.

In beer-honey, both males and females fly and climb,if there is no rain, then you can lure them all to one place, in the heat, and catch the right amount,if it has recently rained-then this method does not work well, they may not come again...

21.04.2015 23:48, Aurelian

Well, I wouldn't mind! smile.gif

A few years ago, I caught polixene in the glades in the vicinity of the Dakhnivska Sich camp, which is 3-4 kilometers from your Geronimovka. Go there in a week or two, they should be flying by now.

22.04.2015 10:57, Василий Л.

To vasiliy-feoktistov: of course, we have such a thing. smile.gif
To Maksim M.: Thank you for your advice! In the summer, we often don't have rain for a week or two, so I'll try to lure perelivnits according to your recipe.
To Aurelian: Well, Dakhnovka is 7 kilometers from Geronimovka. I have a car, so I'll try to catch a few copies of polyxene next weekend (weather permitting).

Can you tell us more about hives, mourning birds, peacock eyes, and polychromats in this topic?:
http://molbiol.ru/forums/index.php?showtopic=92668&st=450

In what biotopes do they occur in your country? What plants predominate in these places? And how often do these species occur?

Easily)

Still, the weather is an interesting thing. In recent years, many interesting weather events and anomalies can be recalled in the Kherson region, and here's what I sketched in my notebook in 5 minutes:

2006-abnormally cold end of January-beginning of February. The temperature exceeded -20 degrees centigrade;
2007-dust storm in the second half of March. Sand got into the ears, nose, eyes, the sun was not visible;
2008-2 months of continuous rain in March and April. There was a lot of greenery;
2009-on the contrary, a very dry spring;
2010-a positive temperature anomaly in November 2010. I remember in late November - early December there was a thunderstorm;
2011 - again a positive temperature anomaly in November-December. In the middle of December, I think it was 15 degrees, the girls even went in short shorts;
2012-I don't remember anything special. Except that it was a nice mild June with mosquitoes;
2013 - heavy snowfall in March; abnormally cold and rainy September and, in principle, the first half of October;
2014-as well as in 2012, there was a rather pleasant mild June.

And we have rain again, starting from Sunday last week. Monday was neither hot nor cold, but pleasant. And today there was even a rainbow.

The weather in the south of Ukraine this year is hot, however. On June 25-27, we have rain, and the temperature is around +20 degrees. Then a couple of days of overcast weather, a couple of days of hotter weather, and from Thursday to now it's raining again! And how powerful they are. It would be better to have more rain in October and November, otherwise we have a drought in the fall.

In 2013, I registered the last day butterfly in the Kharkiv region on November 11 (N. xanthomelas). And on October 30, as many as 5 species were registered smile.gif- and among them the unexpectedly freshest C. pamphilus. Moral: don't rush to close the season... wink.gif

In the Forest you can, and if somewhere in the steppe, then of course to be continued wink.gif
In the Forest Park for several years until mid-September, then almost one small thing flies (I'm talking about daytime banals smile.gif).

I first wanted to create a new topic "Negative temperature anomaly", but seeing that other users have already posted this here, I decided to follow the Occam principle, in the sense of not producing. Moreover, this section of the forum has a theme that is very different from the meteorological one, but here all the complaints are about Pan Stepov, who created this topic here.

So, I'll start. After an unprecedented early spring, which this year started almost from the beginning of February, an equally unprecedented early winter has arrived in the Donbass, impudently pushing away an unprecedented early summer that is preparing to take over the baton. We can not say that its arrival was completely sudden - last week, at night, the thermometer began to gradually go back to the area of negative values, but what happened next was not expected by anyone, including the GFS synoptic model steamed by Pan Stepov.

It all started in the early morning of March 19, when a snow storm suddenly hit.
In itself, in the second half of March in our region, this is quite common. Snow often breaks, sometimes very much sweeps, but almost always melts, just touching the warm ground. Only as an exception, it can lie for up to a day. At first, the snow was melting. But then the temperature. instead of growing. as it should be in the morning, it began to fall, quickly passed 0 and stopped at -1. Snow began to accumulate. But it didn't last long. By midday, the temperature was positive again, and most of the snow cover disappeared just as quickly. just as it appeared. It would seem that this is all, but figs to you! With the sunset came a new wave of winter: snow began to fall again, and the temperature dropped sharply to -6. This is a very strong anomaly for us at this time of year. The snow stopped by midnight, but the temperature lasted until the morning, reaching an extreme of -7.5 by 6 o'clock! But the sky cleared and direct sunlight quickly did its job: by noon it was already +2 and the remnants of the snow cover were holding on with the last of their strength. " Well, now it's definitely over,"I thought, especially since the vaunted GFS promised a clean finish line by summer. Figs you take two! In the second half of the day, clouds abruptly appeared and snow fell again. At the risk of my camera equipment, I took a few pictures and hurried back home.

This time, the snowfall didn't stop, falling inch by inch until almost dawn. And although the temperature was not so terrible - only -2 at the daily minimum, this was enough to completely transform the landscape. And let this afternoon was already +3, and now +2, but now it's for a long time:

Only usually this happens in November-December, now-for the second time. If those leaves froze, she'd have to work her third shift.

The thickness of the snow layer is 10 centimeters. Almost all herbaceous plants, including already blooming early spring ephemeroids, have sunk into it without a trace. Only here and there the tips of the long leaves of wild tulips stick out (I won't say the view, it's a complete mess right now):

The saddest thing is that even when all this melts, because of the slush that has formed in the entomological field, there will be nothing to do for a long time.

In general, Happy New Year!
