Pani, I have to upset you: this is all (well, perhaps, with the exception of the penultimate one) - not wasps, so offtop. Sawyer Pan generally posted for the third time in a separate topic. I hope that at least the file in the repository is one, and not three identical copies?

13.03.2016 23:24, Hierophis

Karharoth, please tell Ezox to throw out his Lynza immediately! And I did not disgrace the Kenon A5x, because such a mess that in general )))

Ezox, these pictures are particularly terrible.. And how many times have I already repeated-forget the word "detail" with this LYN ...

13.03.2016 23:39, Hierophis

Well, this is someone like, I have all this-the most consisted in inserting a magnifying glass inside

Well, that's the whole point, I was messing around, selecting lenses, distances, and Ezox just inserted a magnifying glass, so now it turns out that I shoot animals behind the lens, and ezox shoots behind the magnifying umnik.gifglass

13.03.2016 23:48, ИНО

That's right: "pan fiddled around, picked up lenses, distances", in a word, R & D to the point of losing resistance, and at the output, he was just as far from the results of a normal macro kit (see, for example, NakaRB photos) as I was, with the only difference that I limited all the work to cutting out a cardboard tube and inserting it in the magnifier case (not counting the construction of the flash reflector and LED backlight, which were not used to get the above photos).

It's started jump.gif
Apparently, polisty perfectly wintered and now climb on the balcony, looking for a place for nests, well, I have prepared enough places for them )))

It's a nymph, probably from the lantern nest. But the pictures just suck.

We're also going to have a lot of other new nests today jump.gif

Well, finally there is an opportunity to write again not about wasps that are bees, not about ants that are wasps, and not about flies that are wasps in the shower, but about the most real wasp nests!

______1786.jpg

This is on the site of a perennial socket in the junction box of a lamppost that I wrote a lot about last year. Interestingly, if the nest on the right is quite classic, then on the left is something very interesting and previously unseen by me: the cells are laid directly on the remains of the stems of the previous nest. It's a pity it didn't come into focus, I actually noticed this rudiment only by chance in the photo, while I purposefully shot only the left nest.

I declare the leaf season open! Hurrah, comrades!

These are dominuli. And where did that nymph go? Twirled on the balcony, eggs waved and goodbye? By the way, I've never seen wasps with testicles, maybe Pan should measure the radiation background?

13.04.2016 22:00, Hierophis

Nymphs have not yet laid a nest, they still carry their testicles with umnik.gifthem

13.04.2016 22:07, ИНО

I hesitate to ask, do they also carry a penis with them, or do they leave a pana for storage?

13.04.2016 23:02, Hierophis

"Who has what hurts", as they say )))

14.04.2016 10:33, ИНО

Well, I don't have any pain there, so I don't write about the testicles in relation to wasps. Pan is another matter.

______1842.jpg

It was the day before yesterday. And now they are already full of them, searching, including on my balcony.

14.04.2016 13:22, Роман Ракочий

Here in the west of Ukraine, too, wasps have already become more active. I managed to capture only one - I flew on the balcony, and of course I immediately arranged a photo shoot. The rarest species we have).

For four years of observations on the site, this is the first female that I met. In addition, I met about 5 working wasps and one male. Very rare in general)

Communism among polists probably looks about as smile.gifinteresting as how they will lay eggs-one by one, or who is the first one and managed, or they have a hierarchy formed there, then some of the overwintered wives will probably have to become workers, not queens, well, or build their own foundation for each.

18.04.2016 23:59, ИНО

Yes, the usual thing. Indeed, some (all but one) will have to become workers. But while this is all settled down, a few will have time to postpone. And then, in the absence of an alpha female, someone can slowly put it on. Some of them, most likely, will soon fly to new places.

Fix it:
that's right-Polistes dominula and Polistes nimpha.
In both cases, species names are nouns. Accordingly, there should be no agreement with the generic name at the end.

And they are all ladies!
However, there are also differences. Nevertheless, the "workers-peasants" gave birth and raised THEIR children. And here only (or mostly) "royal".

Uraaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!111 several nymph nests were laid on the may balcony jump.gif

01.05.2016 21:22, ИНО

The joy of this is so great that I couldn't take pictures - my hands are shaking so much. Or is the sacred spoonful of wine to blame?

02.05.2016 17:21, Hierophis

The most interesting thing is that the nymph built the largest nest (6 cells) in the same lantern from which they hatched, the second nest (4 cells at the moment) was built by the nymph in a prepared cavity in the form of a piece of open plastic pipe D100mm L100mm, in which a fragment of the dominant honeycomb was placed for bait.
But not the fact that these are all nests, there are three specially prepared cavities, but without baits, where I can't look, because there are such design features that the cavities are closed for the first time.

02.05.2016 21:48, ИНО

The first observation is quite natural: polists are characterized by local philopatricity. That is, very often overwintered females build a nest in the place of the parent, or settle directly into it. Did Pan remove the parent nest from the lantern? The second is most likely a coincidence. Just some of the wasps broke away from the group gathered at the site of the parent nest and began to look for free shelters nearby. The old honeycomb dominul, moreover, not suspended, but put here clearly has nothing to do with it. And the camera still broke at Pan, it seems.
