I usually identify them by their genitals, there are good drawings in Kurzenko's determinant (1995), you can not look at the keys smile.gifat all

Yeah. Indeed, you don't have to look at the keys. Especially considering the fact that for Vespinae they are quite formal, and for Polistinae they are misspelled. frown.gif

Actually, this is not a hymenopteran, but a dipteran from the family of babblers-Syrphidae. Apparently from the genus Sphaerophoria.
Up to the form let the specialists try wink.gif

The first photo shows a babbling fly (Syrphidae) from the genus Eristalis. Up to a species lacking data, though, it is possible that Eristalis tenax.
On the second - common honey bees Apis mellifera

at the top - Ichneumonidae, at the bottom the bee Halictus sensu lato, and closer and specialists are unlikely to say (if they say-I will be sooo surprised).
P.S. About the posts above - do not clog up the topic, it is on the e-mails!

I can say closer - Halictus sensu stricto, male. wink.gif And if you want to get even closer, you need to study the genitals, but not everything is so good with the determinants. In short, everything is correct, to the point of appearance - hopeless.

A colleague (sorry, but I don't know how to contact you more precisely, since you didn't leave any information about yourself).

Let me ask you a few questions.
First, where have you seen a Sceliphron with jagged mandibles?
Secondly, give at least one species of this genus that has a "metallic" color.
Finally, why don't you review your colleagues ' comments before giving your own definition?

In your drawing, to be honest, it is difficult to make out anything at all. Try to navigate by the posterior basins, which are just attached to the lower edge of the metapleura (the lateral parts of the posterior chest).

There is a good website dedicated to the anatomy of hymenoptera. Unfortunately, recently all the images on it have disappeared. I hope they fix it soon.

A couple more articles on morphology:

Large black bees. What are they called?
Caught 15 pieces.

Most likely, Xylocopa latipes (Drury, 1773)

First, it was a male and this is a female, hence the differences. Both bees are Xylocopa, I don't know about the species, but if they were together, then most likely the species is the same.

caught mating ancistrocerus
the male fits the determinant clearly under a. parietinus, and the female purely under a. trifasciatus, if I caught them separately, I would have identified them, but they mated. now I don't know what to do. could they have mated in nature? and they don't fit the other parameters in any way
