Sorry, but this is not a collection. This is garbage.

But you shouldn't have done that. The condition, of course, leaves much to be desired, but... So the labels seem very familiar, I've seen them somewhere. Latona, do you know anything about the origin of this collection?

Thank you, you! The collection was in the house of chemist Vladimir Petrovich Ilyinsky and his son Vladimir Vladimirovich Ilyinsky. Vladimir Petrovich died in 1965, and Vladimir Vladimirovich about 20 years ago. Who of them collected these beetles, no one knows. There is also an explanatory note to the collection "Rare Beetles". If you're interested, I can scan it tomorrow. The beetles themselves are in a cigar box even before the military release. It's a pity to throw them away, maybe there are really interesting specimens and some of the specialists need them. Sincerely, Victoria.

Thank you so much for your answer. I.e. it's in St. Petersburg, I take it? The explanatory note would be interesting to take a look at. And yes, here's another question, here in the box there are several beetles with orange labels "Turcom." (that is, Turcomania), but under them there are green labels - is it not "Lehmann" written there?

Here be careful with such tips, and then suddenly the person of butterflies will go to determine the keys instead of pictures))

it won't hurt anyone or in any situation! pictures of genitals, of course, but the keys say where to look. the same garbage with venation and many other signs umnik.gifwe will not go far and pick at the pussy-hairs on the eyes of pigeons - how much do you determine from the photo? how many species and genera can you identify without text or experience? I saw normal photos of this feature only on one disk wink.gif

Thank you, so I didn't think so ) Apparently, these beetles were collected by A. A. Lehman, i.e. they were collected no later than 1841-42, and most likely even earlier: https://ru.wikisource.org/wiki/РБС/ВТ/Леман...andr_Adolfovich
The labels didn't look familiar for nothing - I saw them in the collection of the Zoological Museum, and on the handwritten ones the handwriting is very similar to that of E. Menetriet: library.ruslan.cc/authors/менетрие-менетриэ-menetries-эдуард-edouard-петрови/.
So, I think this collection is at least a century and a half old ) In this state, it is unlikely to be of any value to collectors, but it is definitely valuable from a historical point of view. You can send it to the Zoological Museum if you don't really care about it.

This is also C. hortulanus
In general, C. thapsus is not reliably known to me in the MO, but its counterpart C. nigritarsis is found there.
