Hello! Yesterday at the dacha managed to photograph a strange insect. It drank pollen from the flowers on the fly, like a hummingbird. Its size is quite large, almost the size of a matchbox. And most importantly, it's all fur! And the eyes are not like an insect, but with pupils like large animals!.... I would like to know WHAT IT IS???!!!! eek.gif
For earlier THANK you all VERY MUCH! P.S. The photo was taken in the Samara region.

Am I going to be the first to answer, here among entomologists? It's a hawk moth, of course. I won't say what it is, I don't know. But this butterfly is the most attractive to me smile.gif

Help me identify a couple of species!
It looks like Boarmia roboraria, but the white spots confuse me, it's not a scuff or sun glare, so here it is:
picture: Hypomeicus_sp._____.jpg
This is Scoparia, but I don't know how to distinguish the species and which ones we have. If you know, write to us:
картинка: Scoparia_ambigualis__conicella__pyralella.jpg
Yesterday I also saw a moth, very large, probably the size of Hypomeicus punctarius, orange in color, in a deciduous forest in a thicket, while the camera took out and crept up, it quickly flew away. It was dusk, and I didn't notice the end of the trajectory. It is somewhat similar to Colotois pennaria, but the body is thinner and slightly larger. Don't know what it might have been?

Am I really the second one!? Similar to Galia Hyles galii [Hilez ' gali:]

01.06.2007 10:12, vilgeforce

Great shots!!! I fully agree with the two previous speakers: hawk moth. The topic should probably be moved to the "definition of lepidoptera".

01.06.2007 10:49, Julia Lu

Thank you all so much for your answers!....I've never heard of or seen hawkmoth before!.... Do you know where you can read more about them? Maybe classification with photos?....

01.06.2007 10:51, Julia Lu

And another question: why aren't his eyes like an insect's????

01.06.2007 15:04, AntSkr

This is Pterostoma palpinum. You can tell if it's a male or a female. And how to determine the sex of crested whales of the subfamily Ptilodoninae. In other subfamilies, it is easily determined by the antennae, but this subfamily has problems.

I brought out such a person! The monster thing! Buzzes at night strongly! And the eyes are really scary and unlike the eyes of insects!
