A specimen from Khakassia, Hadena variolata. in my opinion.
Well, two very similar types.
Some swallowtail and podaliriya consider the same appearance, do not see the differences.

Thanks! But I was counting on the real external differences between Hadena variolata and H. confusa, if they are of course there.

27.02.2020 22:40, Alexandr Zhakov

Thanks! But I was counting on the real external differences between Hadena variolata and H. confusa, if they are of course there.

There are differences. To begin with, there is no doubt that these are two species.
H. confusa is somewhat larger, more contrasting, we can say black-borax-white.
H. variolata is somewhat smaller, less contrasting. dark gray-brown white sometimes even with a greenish tinge.
Now follow the drawing. Let us take from the same Lepiforum only another specimen of H. variolata, which is more characteristic. Part of copies. in these two types, especially worn ones, you can only accurately determine if you cook them.
H. confusa has a brighter and larger spot at the apex of the wing (circled in red), the marginal band has large bends that seem to divide the field (shown in green) between the marginal band and the marginal band into two sections.
Accordingly, the opposite is true for H. variolata. the vertex spot is smaller and grayer, the zigzags are smaller the field narrows in the middle but does not break.
Well, I repeat, there are instances that are not there and not here, but there are also those that make a surprise when cooking. but these are exceptions.
