Despite the terrible name "bloodsucker" - it is not dangerous, it is more often used on ungulates, although there are others.
The species is no longer a genus, but a family of Hippoboscidae.
And gadflies do not have a trunk at all, rather they are relatively similar to bumblebees or horseflies. I caught and rode decently, but I only caught a glimpse of a gadfly once.

Pseudolynchia canariensis, lives on pigeons. On humans, it shouldn't.
