John-ST, thank you, I didn't even think that flies have such larvae. Oh, I wish I'd looked at them in more detail. And what kind of lion cubs have similar larvae? The ones I know are long spindly ones.

Got a caterpillar in the snow, during the thaw. Previously, I saw more of these, up to 2 cm but dark brown, often caught under stones or logs. Normal teeth, velvety body. I think they're predators.

Why a caterpillar? She doesn't have any abdominal legs. Larva of Coleoptera (Coleoptera, Cantharididae). Yes, they are predators, both larvae and adults.

Thank you, now I remember, it was also called the snow worm.
Cool velvet caterpillar. Although I looked closely - exactly, it differs from the caterpillar, then what is this one called?

Please identify the caterpillar.

Location of detection: Tomsk region, vicinity of the village. Teguldet (about 30 km away), pihtach.

Perhaps, but gracilicornis is characterized by large yellow spots on the sides, which are not shown in this photo.
Some other Arge species have similar green young larvae.
At this time, A. ochropus and A. nigripes can be found on the rose hips, the latter, by the way, has two yellowish stripes on the back of an adult larva , and 7 pairs of abdominal legs. (another 7 pairs of abdominal legs in A. pullata. All other Arge-shet and less)

Thanks!
I considered these options.
Arge ochropus has a yellow larval head.
I couldn't find a photo of the Arge nigripes larva.
It is possible that Arge pullata at a young age, but... it seems to feed on a birch tree...

Ochropus also has a black head at an early age, but the larva in the photo is most similar to pullata in the nature of large black warts, but that one does not live on the dog rose, and in the photo it clearly eats.
A. pullata and A. nigripes in the determinant stand apart from the rest in terms of the number of abdominal legs-I want to repeat to pay attention to this, look at it at a high magnification. Perhaps these two species are similar to each other in other ways - I don't know.
I don't have a picture of the A. nigripes larva. There is only a brief text description about two yellowish stripes on the back of an adult larva and 2-4 black warts on 1-3 abdominal segments (1 is much smaller) of the abdominal legs of 7 pairs. June-September, on wild rose colonies.

And there are no 8 pairs of legs? smile.gif And then in the picture where the larva is upside down (side view), all 8 can be counted. With warts and did not understand where and how to look at them. Yes, in fact, everything that is already posted...
And yellowish streaks may appear later, with age...
Okay, let them live Arge sp. smile.gif

Black spots don't mean feet yet. The false legs start from the second abdominal segment. In the photo, I can see six pairs. Seventh - unclear.
Number of false legs in Arge:
7 pairs in nigripes and pullata
6 pairs in fuscipes and ustulata,
the rest - five.

Vladimir, it's time to start breeding smile.gif
