Geographical labels should be given in more detail: What is "Bengkulu"? The more detailed the better.

In the materials with which I work, there is such a label: "S. Sumatra, prov. Bengkulu, 25 km S town Bintuan, env. of vill. Tanjung Baru Maje", then, respectively, dates, collectors.

This is true, but a lot can be clarified with the help of the Internet, for example.

But what if, while traveling by car, we stopped at a gas station and picked up insects on it (in the vicinity)? How to write a label if the nearest locality is many km away. confused.gif  confused.gif  confused.gif
I use the receipt from the gas station to find it later on the map on the Internet and indicate the location relative to the nearest us. points, plus the road number and kilometer on which the gas station is located.

I make labels in word. For example, I left the table frame. The margins of the sheet are minimal - a good printer prints with margins of 0.7 cm on all sides,
the line spacing corresponds to the font size, or to minimize the size-3-4 pt, the font size is from 3.5 to 5 pt. After the last line-paragraph formatting-1 pt indent-sufficient margin for cutting.

Convenient - I typed a column of labels (copying the template with the header, year, last name), and quickly copied it to the length of the line - it fits 9-11 pieces, lines are quickly copied. When cutting between lines, one precise cut is sufficient, rather than cutting each label from all sides. In short, a minimum of effort and waste.

I consider it unnecessary to start special software for the sake of a vertical date from the end and mourning frames.

Completely switched to English - why offend non-Russian colleagues?) And it is important - I write the LPS coordinate in of a degree - very convenient! Even a simple Google search engine will immediately display a point on the map, for example, 55.34 N 33.32 E without any mismatched degree icons, and unification. And then someone has fractions of minutes, someone has seconds with decimals.... it's a mess!)

How many digits after the decimal point - I won't say exactly right now, but less - a wider circle, 4 characters after the dot-is enough to find goat naks.

I haven't figured out how to print two-sided documents - bilingual ones are just too short (( confused.gif
I believe you! - aboriginal entomologists will be able to compare the current names with the current shuffle.gifones if they have LPS)
quoting is easier,

Well, tady what starts: Microsoft Office 2010 (I have 7 works fine) or Microsoft Office 2013. Well, there are no problems with ancient documents at all: I have label templates created back in office 2003 and now I work normally with them in 2010.
Another thing, of course, if a person does not want to / does not know how to work in word. Then, yes: a special program for labels is needed smile.gif.

I agree, it doesn't take long to make labels in Word - make one and fill in the entire table, as many pieces and pages as you want.

I agree, it doesn't take long to make labels in Word - just make one and fill out the entire table, as many pieces and pages as you want.

So I'm talking about the same thing. 312 labels on an A4 sheet in my version is obtained. And for filling in all the tools in the word are available by default: including even the characters ♀ and ♂ for definitives. Nothing but the word and do not need.

think about it hundreds of times? copy one label, select all the necessary cells and paste.

03.10.2013 20:11, Peter Khramov

No need to copy paste anything :-- ) Open label printing, or whatever it is called for small-soft ones (I use OpenOffice itself), enter the desired label size and number of labels, then write what you need in the first one, and the rest are filled in automatically.

Dear friends, I read 19 pages of heated discussions and still didn't understand anything. eek.gif What is the optimal label size for beetles? About 12 years ago I made a 13x6 mm Arial font 3 pt on a laser printer. And one more point: which order of "words in a sentence" is preferable - " country, region, locality (geographical feature)" or "locality, region, country"?

Everyone I know uses the order "country, region, locality (geographical feature)". I have never seen the reverse order in anyone.

According to your taste: there are no standards in this regard. It is only desirable that all labels are of the same design and size: for both small and large beetles.

In English-language labels, this is often found, especially if the insect is collected in the United States or Great Britain.

That's exactly what I meant. In the 90's, when they adopted everything Western, they changed the postal addresses in this way and, by analogy with them, some (and I included) began to fill out labels:

4 km To the village. Isheevka
, Ulyanovsk region
Russia
leg. S. I. Ivanov, 16. VI. 1999.

If you chew, then "ro-Russian" is a slightly different context. Left to right, not right to left. wink.gif
In English, too, as a rule, most write first the country, and then: region district,, etc.

In my opinion, the label, if possible, should be read without the use of a microscope. I sometimes use Arial 3 pt if there is a lot of information, but I still try to use 3.5 pt. And you, in my opinion, the size of the label is too small. I make 15x7 mm and then some of the information has to be "pushed in". The label, among other things, can also play a protective role, especially for small species. And I don't see much point in unifying the sizes-a small label under a large beetle looks ridiculous, and a thick pin will damage a small label much more, especially with small print. Another thing is that you don't want to fuck around with different labels either.

All my entomological life I use the Labels software for printing labels. But it is, to put it mildly, not fresh and does not work with 64-bit Windows. Does anyone have it for 64x or a similar program for labels?

At the beginning of my entomological life, I used my teacher's light hand to write ink labels measuring 5x10 mm. Then there were photo labels of the same size, but the font on them was about 1.5-2 pt. Accordingly, more information was placed and the print quality was superior to many modern laser sources. 3 I can read the font easily, but I don't know what will happen in my old age...

Difficult question: I've never used it and only heard about it here for the first time. Big doubts that it was written under 64 bits (not the same scope): the program is actually "self-made". What's wrong with MS Office? Somewhere since 2000, I use Word and I don't need such programs.
