a good book came out:

Winterization and cold tolerance of invertebrates in North-East Asia / Daniil Iosifovich Berman, Anna Nikolaevna Leirich

The book is devoted to the results of studying the wintering season of 65 mass species of soil-dwelling invertebrates (ants, click beetles, locusts, worms, millipedes, terrestrial mollusks, earthworms, bokoplav) in a region with an ultra-continental climate. The choice of the region is due to the fact that the minimum values of winter temperatures in Eurasia entail the most complete manifestation of cryoresistance. The biotopic distribution and temperature conditions of the habitat are considered. Wintering stages, cold tolerance at different phases of the life cycle in the seasonal aspect, and resistance limits (maximum supercooling temperatures, long-term temperature thresholds) are determined. Population changes in cold tolerance depending on wintering conditions were found out. Chemical mechanisms and implemented cold protection strategies, their adaptive potential and prevalence are characterized. The influence of resistance to low wintering temperatures on the biotopic distribution, geographical distribution, and overall formation of the soil — dwelling invertebrate fauna in permafrost regions is estimated.

The book is intended for ecologists of various specializations involved in the study of adaptive strategies of organisms to Subarctic conditions and, in particular, in relation to cold, as well as for entomologists of research institutes of biological and agricultural profile.

Colleagues,
I am notifying you of the book's release.
It is well illustrated, but the emphasis is on biology, caterpillars, covers, feeding behavior, the definition is somewhat more complicated, and the genitals are not very well given.
But it's still a very useful book.

Today I received three copies of the book by Vadim Zolotukhin and Sveta Nedoshivina about the pestryanki of the Volga region. Very good! Stylish design, made with taste. An excellent guide to the zygenids of European Russia. Well done!

Dear lovers of insects and nature!
Almost finished collecting such a determinant of butterflies of the Middle Urals:
https://planeta.ru/campaigns/butterfly_of_e...2Fplaneta.ru%2F
It may be interesting to you, or your children, or as a gift.
Laminated "postcards" 21x11 cm, connected by a ring. They are fanned out. Shifter: nocturnal on one side, daytime on the other.
Suitable for exploring the butterflies of the taiga regions of European Russia and Western Siberia, whose fauna is very similar.
As a result, there will be 195-200 species. In the illustrations, the imago of butterflies is spread out in full size.
We started saving money for printing. The circulation will probably be based on this wallet.

There are plans to supplement this determinant with two more similar ones for butterflies in the Southern Urals (forest-steppe and steppe) and the Ural North (tundra and forest-tundra), so that all three intersect minimally, together covering a maximum of species…

I wish you all a good welcome and spend the upcoming 2021!

The day before yesterday (April 16), my colleague and friend Vasily Dmitrievich Kravchenko passed away. He was the initiator and author of this series of books about the butterflies of Israel. Kingdom of Heaven, Rest in peace, my dear friend.

I thought there were going to be three of these Tom riders!

And they were reduced! I open it now and see only one paragraph dedicated to cryptos, they say many types and nifiga have not been studied eek.gifSince this was my first trial poke in this bookstore, I suspect that there are a lot of similar things there. Unlike the first volume, which did not include only what has not yet been found on the territory of the Russian Federation, some obvious defect was released here.
