Just a photo from one of the streets of Prague. Tourist attraction. They say that this is a monument to Sigmund Freud, embodying the isolation of the intelligentsia from the people.

By the way, there won't be enough people. Is it taken on the second day of bursa?

By the way, there won't be enough people. Is it taken on the second day of bursa?

This is the first day. There are always few people in March. Now, in October, it was a real madhouse. Not like in the hall between the tables, it was difficult to pass in the corridor.

There are still photos and I'm thinking of creating a separate theme specifically for this.

I will allow myself to intervene, you can call the topic something like "fair and exhibition"

I think we should create a separate theme dedicated to entomological fairs and exhibitions. They regularly take place in different European cities. The largest and most representative are Paris (Juvisy) and Frankfurt am Main. Thousands of people gather there every year. They sell, buy, exchange insects and literature, and most importantly communicate with each other. As a result of such communication, relationships are formed, new projects are born, new material for study appears, and very important information is exchanged that cannot be obtained from books and scientific articles. And these are not just words. It was in Bursa that I accidentally met a collector from Slovenia, who became a good friend of mine. On the Viennese Berz, an unknown Austrian gave me some very rare butterflies. Just like that. We've been corresponding for a year now, exchanging butterflies and information. We agreed to meet again on berza. I mean, many people have an opinion about the exclusive commercialization of such events, that a thoroughly corrupt public gathers there and this has nothing to do with real entomology. That's not so. Such fairs are an integral part of the general entomological process.
Of course, not everything is as idellic as it may seem from my words. There are a lot of people going to bursa and they are all very different. Everyone has their own interest, but one thing unites them-the love of insects.

As far as possible, I will support this topic with photos and provide information about ongoing fairs. I invite everyone to take part. Here I think you can also post photos from various exhibitions.

We won't go too far into history. Let's start with Germany, Leipzig November 2006. Berze there is small, for their own. That's why it's interesting. There are no well-known merchants, only German amateurs who can find local attractions.

I wonder if there's a big demand for bat corpses. And then in the soil traps sometimes fall. I can sell it for a mere penny. rolleyes.gif

Gentlemen, let me ask you a stupid question. Here I see in the photos a standard set-butterflies, barbels, hornbills, ground beetles, and bronzes. Basically, everything is large and bright. And every kind of trifle is found there? All sorts of small soft flies and eardrums? It's the same with literature. They sell only all sorts of bright books with beautiful pictures dedicated to butterflies and large beetles? Or is there literature on other groups of insects?
I really hope that I did not offend fans of butterflies and ground beetles.

There are hymenoptera at fairs. Not much, but there is. The flies probably have the same thing, but I wasn't paying attention. Any literature is presented. I will only note that fairs are not a place to search for special literature, with the possible exception of the Italian Entomodena. Booksellers mostly come there.

Some gentlemen very much praise the fair in Modena. Can I find out more about it?

07.11.2008 17:24, Динусик

Well, people are going to the fair, and here, due to geographical and material difficulties, I hang like a monument to Freud... frown.gif lol.gif
But the pictures are cool, just enjoy it. I understand that in one of their photos this is something like a screen for catching insects at night? I really liked the idea. Do you have any other photos with any interesting equipment?

You should ask those who praise you. Probably because of the atmosphere. It's quiet and peaceful. The disadvantage is that it takes place in May, at the height of the season, when everyone goes to catch. Mostly locals hang out.

Tell me, do they hold exhibitions and sales of live invertebrates in Europe? Maybe there are specialized exhibitions?

I think there is, but I've never been interested. Every regular fair/bursa has a "live corner". Pupae and even caterpillars of butterflies, beetle larvae, live beetles, stick insects, etc. "the usual thing.
At the next fair, I will try to shoot live insects.
(Oh, I think I'm becoming an expert on Europe) smile.gif

An elderly entomologist recalls a character named Grandfather Kamozei from Miyazake's Gone With the Ghosts

Please note that his butterflies are very common, probably caught "in the country" or somewhere nearby. It is almost impossible to sell it and exchange it too, but he bought a table (E 55, -) and will stand for two days just to be part of an entomological event.

You can't tell me....which groups of insects are good for exchange/sale? If for example there will be a bunch of scoops, but not certain ones? Satires? Pigeons? Parnassus? Colias? ..... what's most interesting....

11.11.2008 10:48, Pavel Morozov

Traditionally, it is Carabus
Parnassius
Colias
Sphingidae
Saturniidae
, etc. etc.
Any group has its own person, it remains only to connect with them

11.11.2008 11:33, barko

It all depends on the types offered and the price.

Don't count on getting rich easily and quickly. It should be understood that there is already "everything" at fairs. As far as I can tell, there are only a few people who can get any meaningful income from selling insects. The rest spend more than they earn.
I always have 2-3 small boxes with butterflies and beetles to exchange. Parnassus, except for apollo and phoebus, for which there is a prison in Europe, jaundice and other bulavousy, scoops with moths, beetles. I put prices like others. They buy very rarely. The price in this case is needed to determine the value of the exchanged butterflies.

I'm more interested in seeing the exhibition and expanding my collection in the first place. In terms of earning at least the road will be able to recoup? (I live far away, the whole road with accommodation I think about 3 thousand euros will come out). I plan to bring several hundred different parnassians, plus colias, satyrs, carabuses, and barbels. There are at least 2-3 thousand insects in total.

It's just so tough with Apollo? I also wanted to take it for at least 50 pairs...it's better not to try?

12.11.2008 8:38, Pavel Morozov

It is unlikely that you will be able to pay for the road and accommodation. Although, who knows?
If you have unique views that no one else has, they can be disassembled like hot cakes.
It depends on what you bring.

12.11.2008 10:29, Buga

But this is a pity that I will hardly pay for the road... And it is probably difficult to find uniqueness for all who have seen evvropeytsev... I'm going on an expedition specifically for the purpose of further participation in the fair in Prague, but to recoup the costs ((((Financial difficulties, so to speak.

Something straight thought....I was thinking hard...

12.11.2008 11:45, Pavel Morozov

The main thing there is participation.
Meet, chat, exchange, chat about this and that. You can also drink beer with a sausage (and there they pour Gambrinus, Urquel). This is a real gathering of kindred spirits. According to one elderly Czech entomologist (and elderly Czechs often speak very good Russian), he is happy to pay just to hang out here for two days.

Is it really better not to take any chances with Apollo?

12.11.2008 14:19, swerig

Three euro pieces is unrealistic to justify. There's mostly an exchange.Maybe try to sell here??? Throw in your personal price list.

12.11.2008 16:42, barko

Apollo will not only be kicked out of the fair, but simply arrested! This is not a joke!
Phoebus is also forbidden even to exhibit.
In Frankfurt, I personally saw two people from the fair's organizers walking through the rows and looking through the boxes. In addition, CITES people view butterflies and beetles in boxes. In Budapest, at a fair two years ago, representatives of the Hungarian nature protection department detained a person with prohibited species. There was an unpleasant scandal.
